some people call it a relay... it's the part that tells the motor to shut off if the bike is on its side. I cut mine off for race purposes (can shut the motor off if you lean too far), but because I'm putting the bike back to street, it really should have one again.

Kristy... are you sure our bikes have one? I can't find it in this wiring diagram, but I could be missing it.

if there isn't one, what is it that you cut off? where was it located?

Near the sidestand - in the diagram it looks like they are calling it a sidestand switch.

cool... so you need a sidestand switch.

FYI, the sidestand switch works by killing the engine (actually not allowing the ignition to work) when the side stand is down and in gear... it has nothing to do with the angle/lean of the bike.

Yeah. I remember Motoman of Mototune USA/"Break In Secrets" fame warning everyone about them but there isn't one on our Ninjettes. A lot of racers take the sidestand off to save weight (they tow thier bikes around with hitches and wheel chocks), so bypassing it might make sense there (depends if it needs to be normal open or normal closed).
