140 size tires

does anybody use them? will they fit?

does anyone make a 140-90-16 for our bikes?

A bridgestone BT-45 in a 130/90-16 size is significantly wider than a stock tire. On top of that, it barely clears my swingarm by about 1/4" on each side of the tire. not only would the 140 likely pinch in the back rim (2.5" wide), it likely wouldn't even clear the swingarm. I've also heard that Sport Demons in the 130/90-16 size are the same wideness as the BT-45's

I'm not sure if anyone makes a tire in that size. I highly recommend Pirelli Sport Demons and here are the sizes they have available for our bikes:
130-80-16
130-90-16
140-70-16 &
150-80-16

wow has anyone tried the 150? does it require modification?

a 150 won't clear the swingarm. and it will pinch. newgens have a 3.5 inch rear wheel and there's only a very small number of tire models that will fit the rim without pinching in a 150 size. again, the pregen rear rim is only 2.5 inches wide. so yes, the 150 will require modification of some type, whether it means having wider rims put on or swingarm modification I'm not sure, but it won't be plug and play.

its probably gonna be that or the bt-45. I'm ordering tonight

I have no experience with those diablos. but people here seem to like them. I love my bt45s

A lot of people seem to like the Diablos. I ordered a pair for myself last week but haven't had the time to mount them yet. It's hard to beat the $120 price tag for the pair from motorcycle-superstore

i ended up buying the diablos. they were 35 dollars cheaper than the bt and 45 cheaper than the demons per tire. I dont ride fast for more than a mile or so at a time and only pull small wheelies...

Yeah, that's why I got them too. I think they are rated in the low 90's, but I use my bike to commute and have never even been faster than ~75 so don't mind. They should work well

Everybody talks about tire speed ratings, but nobody seems to really know what they mean or how they're determined.

So here's some information:

Tire speed ratings are about resistance to heat buildup, too much heat and the tire begins to degrade back into the original component parts that were vulcanized together to make the tire.

Speed ratings are based on laboratory tests where the tire is pressed against a large diameter metal drum to reflect its appropriate load (intended load), and then it is run at ever increasing speeds (in 6.2 mph steps in 10 minute increments) until the tire's required speed has been met.

So to "limit test" a Diablo Scooter tire the test would take a total of 2.5 hours (stepping up the speed in 6.2 mph increments every 10 minutes) with the last 10 minutes of that 2.5 hours occurring at 94mph (actual), after which the tire is inspected and cannot show any "abnormal" signs of wear.

I'd really be surprised if any EX-250 rider could sustain a high enough speed long enough to cause a Diablo tire to begin degrading.

The average EX-250 rider occasionally winding it up for a short burst of high speed riding when he's absolutely sure that John Law isn't hanging around is nothing to a Diablo Scooter tire.

Plus: the EX-250 has about an 8% speedometer error so at an indicated 102mph, you'd actually only be going 94.4mph. If your EX-250 has stock gearing and stock tire size this speed would require a little over 12,000 RPM in 6th gear.

yeah that pretty much sums up my highspeed thrill urges in a nutshell... My reason for choosing the bridgestones over diablos (I was also stuck between the diablos, sportdemons, and BT45s) was really the 90 height (closer speedo/more ground clearance) and dual tread compound. I've gotten pretty good life out of them (and lately a bunch of that has been commuting) and the middle section isn't that much harder, but it definitely doesn't have as much centerline wear as it would if the whole tire was as sticky as the outsides
