Service Manual??
How many here actually use a service manual when you work on your 1st gen bikes? Do you own one?
Thanks |

Owned one for the 1st-gen, sold it with the bike. Own one for the new-gen, but use it more as a reference rather than a step-by-step for all of the bike's maintenance.

Yep, I've got one too. I use them (2 manuals 1 for the 86-87 and 1 addendum covering the 88-2007) along with the pages from the other Ninja 250 site's FAQ.

kkim, You got me! Didn't realize I was in the 1st gen threads. Nope, I have one of those "Faster 2009 Ninja 250Rs" that come in BLACK!! And I just received my manual ('09) and MOS driver! Can't wait for the rain/cold to subside. It's time to drill out the caps on my carbs!! |

Kelly, Got my manual the other day. Not bad. Motorcycles have sure come a long way since 1982. Am still entertaining the idea of a 650R with a Lime Green JAWA sidecar. It would make a really interesting touring rig. Trick is, to find a JAWA sidecar.

Kelly, Checked with Kawa and there is no way a sidecar can be fitted to a 650R. Kawa suggested a 900 Vulcan. Now I have to find Clubman bars for the Vulcan, a cafe racer fairing, and a Jawa Sidecar. The lime green paint job should be no sweat since I have a friend who owns a body shop. I am discovering that these sportbikes have no frames--just like the Vincent--looks like the Vincent was the first Liter Superbike (in 1953) I know that it sounds like a weird project--but it gives me something to do in my spare time.

I got the manual and addendum. The only negative comment I'd have is that I wish they had printed a new manual for every minor revision, rather than having to use 2 books. Plus for some of the information (I think it was the electrical schematics), my model (F19 - 2005) wasn't listed. I think the list went up to F13 or something (sorry I'm trying to recall from memory). But one of those earlier ones was actually the correct schematic...
That being said, for black and write dated printing (i.e. non-digital), the manual is quite good. However I couldn't have done any of the work described there without the help of the ninja250 faqs... that site is GOLD! ~jc |

Zeroth, I`ll have to second that. The DIY`s on this forum really shine. I like the fact that they are unpretentious and devoid of braggadacio. This is a forum I feel very comfortable with. I tried the other forum and it drove me to drinking. After a while the I am cooler than you gets old
