I just got back into riding and already 3 acquaintances have contacted me for advice

I appreciate them wanting my advice, but I don't know too much about every bike. This doesn't stop them from requesting for help in searching for a bike for themselves. One work acquaintance even called me just a bit ago and asked if I can help him search for a deal on a Harley Davidson Iron 883. I don't know **** about those bikes lol
A college classmate asked me last week if I can go with him to a test ride for a Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R. I've never ridden anything bigger than a Ninja 250R, but I'm down to test ride a ZX6R!
Anyone else experience this? People wanting advice on getting into the motorcycle world, I mean.

I make people fill a questionnaire. Then research the topics on internet. Then only come to me on areas with no easy answer.

Soooo... friend who knows nothing about bikes (therefore a new rider) wants a ZX6R, presumably as a first bike.

Bring a camera. There's yet another Youtube sportbike fail video on the way....

Link to original page on YouTube.

Take the requests as compliments. People think you have knowledge.

But never pretend you're knowledgeable if in fact you are not.

A stupid man thinks (or pretends) he knows everything. An intelligent man learns enough to ask smart questions of those who know more than he does. He listens to the answers, alters his views based on what he has discovered... and never ever stops doing that.

The most important question one can ask is "Why?"

The most important answer is "I don't know."

The most important followup is "Let's find out."

Take the latter two to heart. Be honest when you don't really know, then together with the friend who asked, go out and find the correct answer. You'll both learn something in the process.

Yep. People assume you know a lot about bikes.

I'm finding that a lot of my friends have had bikes in the past, which is kind of cool.
