what should i expect... (low/no oil)

So from an oil starved engine what's the worst to xpect... The dealer seys its no point to submit it for warranty fix.. Ok so ill move on.. So I've been told if its oil starved the rod? Bearings might just need to be replaced... Or the worst is the cylinder walls are bad?? Do I need a new engine if the clynders are bad Or??

I think it depends to what extent it was oil starved and for how long. idk though, cant offer much help on this one.

Not sure myself cause the bike had oil in it B4 I took it in ect... The bike began to loose power and when I got it in 1st gear it shut off and could not get it started for about 10 mins it started then I turned around and headed home never got over 35 Mph rode it about mile and pulled over and it died in first again tried starting it and it took bout 5 mins and when it did started to make a loud clacking noise.. Had it towed after that...

all this happened with no oil in the crankcase?? i think its safe to say that motor is toast. But i would have a tech take a look and see how bad it is. If the engine is hard to turn over, then might be cheaper looking for a used engine.

Only when it stalled the light came on it turned over the next day like nothing with the clacking sound.. Believe me I would have seen the oil light on I rode it six miles b4 the power droped.. It was low on oil ill admit maby just above the lower line in the sight glass... U had to tip the bike a lil more than usually...

I checked the oil that night after work... there was some in there maby it was .7 low? The dealer sed there was no oil...had my bike over a month now.. Lol..

Riding like a bat atta hell... Maby 1100 miles since my last change so I'm assuming that and a lil exhaust leak also and I needed a valve adjustment and carbs synced what sucks is I share a ride wit the Ol lady yak yak yak yak blah blah.. Lol

I'd say that the oil leak is possibly covered by warranty, as long as it was sudden. Mine was WAY past due for service and it never l;eaked or burned oil.

I'm trying to find out how you lost that much oil on a new bike. You should be able to go thousands of miles without burning a large amount of oil. Or really even a noticeable amount of oil. Especially if you are running synthetic oil.

As for the losing power and clacking... Sounds like you overheated the engine where the pistons seized in the cylinders and spun a bearing. If that is the case the motor is toast. I say this because it will definitely need new rod bearings. Because the pistons seized you will probably need new rings, a cylinder hone, new pistons (for the bigger cylinders) and new rods (from the stress of stopping).

You could get by with just replacing the rod bearings but by the time it is all said and done it is probably less expensive just to buy a new motor and send me your old motor. :-)

I'm going to add my 2cents but I'll start by saying I'm by no means a mechanic. On the other hand I'd also like to think I'm not a total idiot either.

Something doesn't add up to me. First you say the oil was low but above the fill line. 'Low oil' doesn't mean 'no oil'. Not to mention the light didn't come on. Yes lights can fail and you shouldn't rely on it but you also had the oil changed not that long ago.

The issue to me is 'did the engine fail because it had no oil' or 'did it have no oil because the engine was failing'. With the information you've given, low oil, recent service, I'd speculate that the engine had a problem first. I'd push a little harder for warranty on this.

Start looking for a used motor to put in. Running an engine without oil to the point of seizure generally damages so many things that the cost of parts to rebuild it exceeds that of a replacement motor.

At a minimum, to rebuild that motor you're looking at pistons, rings, possible cylinder head if warped, rods, bearings, crank, and oil pump. That's assuming the cylinder bores are salvageable.

Yeah did my research a lot to rebuild so yeah I'm lookin for a used motor dealer drugg ass 5 weeks to tell me well submit it if u want- lol that's what I wanted so I paid their labor fee and took my bike I'm be removing the engine this week end...

So today I thought I'd tighten my engine cover Lol snapped one of the four bolts - shrug - a mechanic I know has an engine for sale doesn't know the milliage but said it ran and was making noise but doesn't know whuts wrong wit it.. For 100$ - wondering if I should buy it tomorro and open both motors or save up fer a real engine
