Unknown wiring

Hey does anybody know what these wires go to? I bought an older model 250 not 100 percent sure on the year yet and had no key. So I wired the ignition wires and can get everything to work except the starter button. Then I found these wires have been snipped. I think some of them touched and blew a fuse so I replaced the fuse and now I have no power to anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi and welcome!

Your best bet is to track down wiring diagram for your model year. Look at VIN plate and look at stickies at top of this sub-forum for diagram. Then restore all wiring back to factory condition.

Ignition-switch wiring must be exactly stock. If it's blowing fuse, something is not connected like stock. Factory condition is required because of anti-theft features; will not work otherwise.

Also starter circuit has some safety-interloc conditions that must be met to start (neutral gear, clutch-squeezed, etc.).

So download wiring diagram, trace each and every wire from beginning to end on diagram and make sure wiring on bike matches. You'll find some non-factory conditions. And when you repair and convert back to factory state, fuses will stop blowing and bike will start! Good luck!

Careful that the positive jumper cable clamp on the battery isn't grounding out on the frame. From the photo it looks pretty darn close.

I’ve looked at wiring diagrams and can’t trace anything back to a harness with those exact colours. My ignition wiring is the old style without the resistor in it. It wasn’t the ignition wiring that blew the fuse it was the wiring harness in the pic. Thanks for the help
And lol I will move that jumper cable over a bit didn’t even realize

Those bare wires go to ignition-module:

Look at PDF diagram at end of this post:
https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35999

Look at lower-right of diagram for "ignition module" and every single one of those wires match up to your picture. Wire-colours typically change after they go through a connector. So note colour-change after it goes through connectors and fuse-box. Best bet if you find replacement connectors to repair your harness.

You'll also want to make the repair as good or better than factory, no crimp-connectors, no electrical tape. Solder and heat-shrink tubing only.
