put a price on my bike

a friend of mine is looking to get into riding, so i offered him my bike. wasn't sure on a fair price. i was going to give it to him for around 2k but i figured i'd see what the wise ninjette crew thought of it.

2009 ninja 250 w/ around 15k miles

mods:
- rear raised, front dropped. 23d rake
- r1 rear shock with r1 knuckle and custom adjustable dogbones
- rearsets, clipons, adjustable Chazzo levers (chinese pazzo replicas from thetwowheels guy)
- yoshi full exhaust with tcr SS can. dyno tuned by dealer, stock airbox, cali emissions removed
- steel braided brake line in front
- hotbodies undertail, front fender (race glass), tinted wind-screen (no defects)
- brand new bt45 tires (about 300 miles on them)
- bi-xenon 6700 hid with mechanical brights from a mini-cooper
- crotch of tank covered in 3m protective clear film

service:
- regular oil changes, coolant flushed, both brakes have new fluid and pads
- 7500mi valve adjust was fine, on the second valve adjust had to go down 0.01mm shims.
- chain is starting to get a little old, but still rust free and in generally good condition. sprocket teeth still straight and undamaged. probably could use chain and sprockets in the next 5k or 10k miles though

damage:
- scratches on the exhaust, peg, and a small crack on the right fairing from a slow drop + spin on the peg. peg is bent in 1 degree (measured) at about 2mm on the end. doesn't cause any clearance issues and is pretty hard to see if you dont have it off the bike on a flat surface
- could use a new cct. kinda noisey.
- the grips are kinda not in the best shape... probably should be replaced... they only cost like $20 for decent ones though
- the caps that cover the swing arm and frame bolts were stolen
- the ninja sticker on the right side is gone
- it could use a bath

Lemon pledge the **** out of it, start at $4000 or $3500 and go from there. Remember mine sold for $3300 with the stock exhaust, and 13xxx miles, but it took almost 2 months to sell

don't get me wrong though, unlike kevin i love these little bikes. they're an absolute blast in the city and twisties... boy is this bike setup for twisties but highway, well... its not really setup for long distance right now with the control and suspension mods. gets painful after only a few hundred miles

Well you said you were selling it to a friend and you said that you were already thinking around $2000, which to me is a steal, so you're probably giving him a friend discount. In that case, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. I've personally seen 2009s with less mods up for $3000-$3500. Granted they probably had less miles, so maybe that's a big factor in the price...

I would say 2.5K

That's a fair amount of miles and a little damage but lots of goodies too.

I sold my '09 with 5300 miles - repaired fairing damage, extra exhaust/headers, extra windscreen OEM, DB windscreen from HotBodies, BRT CDI (non-programmable), solo seat cowl, and a few small parts for $3100 which I bought for $3600 with 1500 miles + solo seat cowl. The first to look at it took it home with a smile on his face. I could have got a few hundred more, but answering emails and phone calls are things I did not want to deal with over an extended time. Mine was on CL for 5 weekdays before someone bought it on Saturday morning. Just FYI.

I just bought a stock '09 with only a fender eliminator mod and seat cowl and 4500 miles for $2800....the 15K mileage is so much over the estimated 2009 mileage (~3900 miles) that I think $2500 is the highest I'd pay IF I really liked the mods for what I wanted to do. Maybe sell the exhaust separately for $300 and charge him $2300--though since it's tuned for the exhaust that would mess with it.

In my experience, the more mods on a bike, the hard it is to sell it.

Get the bike back towards stock, you can clean the bike throughout along the way, increase the chance of sale and better chance to get a fair price.

I would not sell it for another project bike unless you have something really reliable. :S

Your legs are reliable... they have pushed your FZR plenty of times

I would be more than willing to help you getting it closer to stock by taking those pesky rearsets and front braided line off your hands... also wouldn't mind that custom headlight setup... once you do that... I'd say $2.5K is pretty fair

Just say the word brotha

I considered mentioning the rear shock, but with my hugger I don't know if it's feasable I also still need to get you back your stands... although I'm really lovin' them too

For a friend I wouldn't charge more than $2500 with that many miles. On the street you may be able to get $2800-3K AT BEST. Most people won't pay extra for mods.... they are simply looking to get into their first bike for cheap.
