Oil pressure switch

Anyone know what's the Oil pressure switch does? It's located on left hand side right behind the header. I thought it was oil temp sensor but I looked up in the service manual and they call it Oil pressure switch instead. Does it switch on/off something?

I believe that is what set's off the "low oil" dummy light.

Yes, it makes the oil light come on if the oil pressure goes below a certain amount. Ususally 2-3 psi. but I'm not exactly sure how low for the Kawi.

The oil pressure switch monitors the engine oil pressure. The engine oil pressure ranges from 14-25 psi max. Pressures below the min psi will initiate the warning light. If you ever happen to take the oil hose off you will notice how tiny the banjo holes are and how thin the hose is. I think the upper cylinder could benefit from better oil flow at higher rpms. That was one of my reasons for getting an oil cooler.

I replace that switch with an oil temp sensor (Koso)...not sure if that would do any damage...

Does the Koso gauge have a low pressure warning light? A switch simply completes the circuit through a light bulb when pressure goes lower than a preset amount. If the Koso doesn't have a low pressure warning light then you'll have to pay attention to the gauge to make sure you don't miss a low-pressure event.

Does the KOSO not have a low pressure warning hook-up?

I just confirmed. The KOSO does have a low oil warning trigger. Should be a wire in the KOSO harness to hook to the stock oil pressure sensor or at least tap into somewhere.

Double check your wiring!!!

Do not replace the switch with the hose on it. Put the Koso oil temp sensor on the old oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine. The old drain plug location is next to the oil filter cover.

Dont see any problem with that.

That stock switch was only good for oil light and the temp light check. New gauge has no use for it.

Unless that koso is different from the instructions I looked at, they didnt even deal with oil pressure???

Not sure. Koso does have an oil light. I moved the oil temp sensor down to the old oil drain as recommended a d put back stock oil pressure sensor.
I ha e a plug and play wire set so no splicing. Just plug it in and go.

Well I would think the KOSO oil light would be on when the key is turned on and it should go off shortly after the bike starts... just like stock.
