It's almost better for the bike to be so obviously destroyed.

Back in the 1980's I used to work (volunteer) as a corner flag-man/safety guy at AMA road racing events. When a rider would low-side and slide just like the one in this video did, he'd often pop up at the end of his sliding and immediately look around for the bike. They're so amped-up and focused on racing that they'd pick up what is now a pretty screwed up bike, jump right back on it and try to ride it back into the race.

I saw some pretty bad results from this a couple of times.

Sometimes the outside corner workers would have to sprint out across the run-off area to catch and prevent (and I mean physically restrain) a rider from taking a really bashed up, bent-up, leaking, part-shedding bike back out into the race.

I love the rider's reaction when he realizes it's in 2 pieces -- that head turn is classic.

Wow....that was crazy. At first, it wasn't really flipping that much but I guess as the bike started spinning, it just kinda tore itself apart...Definitely wasn't expecting it to end in 2 pieces.

Lol it was a joke! But who knows. The frame sliders could have dug into the grass, and kept the bike from destroying itself. Then again, probably not

lol, I know it was a joke. Those Triumphs really don't hold up that well to crashes though.

Wow. There must have been lots of room for him to slow down. He entered the grass area really quickly. I doubt it's easy to slow down on that.

^ This thread was worthy of being revived from the dead.

You know how racers often defiantly run towards their bike after a crash and try to get it going and back on the track again... I think this is one of the few times where most racers would decide: "nope... not happening"

* ... glances around just incase there is a welding kit on the side of the track... *

nope
