Is this a good bike to start on?

I am looking to get a 250 as my first bike and I found this one on craigslist. I've been told not to trust other people's helmets so I would probably just sell it or keep it for a second passenger if needed. As much as I want an 08+ body, the pregens are cheaper and to me this one looks good.

Tell me what you think:

If I do go to look at it I will be bringing a friend that rides.

You lowball most anyone you dealing with... Unless your desperate, it can be insulting though. Dealing is a fine art when done right.

bike to start on

It's so cheap because there's a 300cc out now. I bought a used 07 with 1200 miles 2 years ago for $1700. Was overpriced back then but wifey wanted a ride so bad, it's her coin anyway. Bid 1k and go from there. Good luck.

Looks like a solid motorcycle! See if they have any maintenance records and try a lowball offer (To me, $1,200 sees reasonable).

Check out this thread for some really SOLID tips on buying used:

Thanks for the share. I believe $1200 would be too low. My friend is telling me $1700.

$1700 is respectable. low balling is not an art in dealing.. its disrespectful, hence the name.

What a person wants for a bike and what a person wants to pay for a bike is their personal opinion of worth. To me $1200 is what the bike is worth to me. I have bought many bikes for dirt cheap because that price was what it was worth to me and either the seller couldn't get more for it or just fell in love with my charm. I don't think it is disrespectful to offer my opinion. It would only be disrespectful if I offered a very low price then backed out if the offer was accepted.

That's an amazing price for that year of bike. I'm sure you could offer him slightly less though because most people post their amount they want expecting people to make an offer. Jump on that deal (and that bike) ASAP

I also just found a 2000 Ninja 250 for $1900 that is green so I might try to talk that guy down too. Never had this many options before.

You have to remember that California prices will be much more than other parts of the country. When I was looking, I did not see any new gens for less than $2800 that were not salvaged, granted they did have some scrapes and bruises. Around $2200 you would start to see salvaged new gens; that was also the price for some old gens.

2k seems like an ok price to me. I'd just ask if they were firm on that price. They usually say either yes or tell you what they would take.

I hate price haggling. When I sell vehicles, I'm usually pretty set on my price. I did let a guy talk me down a hundred bucks on a van once. I think 12 would be an insult to them.

I'm with this. If I think the price is reasonable and the seller is honest, I won't lowball them but settle on a price where both parties have a pleasant transaction. I already know that most vehicle sales are done at a loss so I don't want to exacerbate that.

Sounds good all. I plan on offering anywhere from $1500-1700. That seems like a fair price.

1500 bring cash, Bring your own helmet. Dont be a douche and super low ball it, 1500 is a fair price for that bike in its condition. I tend to offer fair prices when i go for a bike. I did get my FZ1 way cheaper then i should have but i didnt low ball him he just posted it at a retarded price and was impatient.

For sure I will bring cash. I am planning on offering $1500 but I would settle for $1700 if it is in great condition.
