Time for new tire?

I'm new to riding so sorry if this seems stupid. I'm wondering if the tread on my rear tire looks like it needs replaced or is ok for a little longer. I'm still learning what I can and I'm just looking for tips on knowing when to replace it.

I would replace it. Even brand new those IRCs suck anyway. If you tell us how you ride or how you're interested in riding we can help you choose new ones

it depends on what you want out of riding. wanna ride? those tires will be fine. wanna RIDE..you might wanna replace those for better ones, not just replace with another pair of IRCs.

Come on guys, IRCs aren't that bad...Of course, there are better ones, but the level of hate you guys have for them is unwarranted...I've used mine for both commuting and some aggressive twistie riding, and they've held up fine (just warm them up before doing anything wild lol).
Going back on topic, since you appear to be more of a commuter, you can continue using them for several thou' miles me thinks

Ive done the same. I ran my IRCs until it needed to be changed...well, the sidewall on the front tire had some pretty bad cracks and im not chancing that while riding the twisties, so i changed them. +2 on just using them for commuting

the IRC's are better than the Dunrocks that came on the pregen, but not close to what my BT45's can do. And from what I've heard, the BT45's are NOTHING compared to the Diablo Rosso II's I wish I had rims that could handle those tires, but I'm too cheap to do the conversion unless I can get a parts bike CHEAP.

It's not just spirited riding in the twisties they're so hard I consider it a safety issue. Say if you had to avoid something. I swerved to miss a car and tucked the front with these tires, not to say it's all the tires fault but I feel like if I had my bt016s things may have gone differently.

For unscientific and moderately squiddy comparison, skidding the rear was a joke on the IRCs (I hated them so I skidded a lot lol) I really have to stomp down now to skid these, I've done some quick stops where I decided to see how much pressure it took to lock up the rear for lulz. it's noticeably higher now

I feel that the IRC tires are ok for commuting but if you a track junkie then better go for some more sticky tires... i am using stock IRC for around 12,500 miles now and they still look strong to go another 10k miles... ...

They just do not wear out...

Go with the BT-45s! You're tire can last a bit longer if you're willing to chance it. You have worn past the wear bars and the center is worn smooth = time to replace. Remember to constantly check tire pressure as these tires don't hold much air and it doesn't take long for a pressure drop.

Thanks for the info everyone. And I haven't put any mileage on these tires so all wear is from previous owner. I don't plan on really commuting much, more of just a fun toy to go ride around on. I was hoping they would last a little longer but safety comes first, I guess now it's time to research a decently priced tire to replace it.

Literally just installed my Pirelli Diablo II a few minutes ago. A WORLD DIFFERENCE FROM IRCs!

I will be honest it was such a big difference that i took it really really EASY on the way home. The bike just wants to fall into turns and grab every groove on the road!

The difference from the stock tires to the Pirelli is like riding on a rock tire and then moving over to a sticky-tack type tire.

Haven't seen the Pirelli's in a 130 size yet, but I did take a look at the BT-45 rear tire and for the price it seems to be pretty good from all the reviews I've read.

The 45s do well and they are sport touring tire and will last longer due to the harder compound used. Great for commuting and the occasional twisties.

You will hardly notice a difference between a 130 and a 140.

From what I've read, the DR2 is a narrow 140, so pinching is not an issue.

I haven't noticed a difference between the 130 and 140 in the DR2. I feel like it is just as nimble. It fits on the rim nicely too.

Best thing to do it go to a auto parts store and get a tread depth tool and measure the tread you have left.



And yes new tires feel better but stocks no that bad for everyday riding
