The basic problem with riding motorcycles

A typical spring day goes like this:

Wake up, check weather to see if it's good to ride.
Gear up, ride to work... but stuck behind cagers the whole way.
At work in the morning, think about riding instead of work.
At lunch, bum out because you don't have time to go riding.
In the afternoon, think some more about riding.
After work, reverse morning commute, again stuck behind cagers.
At night, think about riding the next day.

Rinse and repeat.

doesn't happen like that...

wake up early, gear up.
ride twisties on the way to work.
work
ride and meet friends for lunch.
work late
ride twisties home.
work on bike.

Yep pretty much sums it up. Try to make up for it on the weekends though! Luckily we're having some amazing -and hot- temps coming this next week or so.

Illegal here and also dumb, given the way people drive.

In CA where it's legal people are used to it. Here people routinely wander over the line.

"Stuck behind cagers"??? You're doing it wrong. The whole point of commuting by bike is that it's more maneuverable, allowing you to nimbly pick your way through the sea of traffic. That and free use of the HOV lanes.

Mine is more like:

Wake up, look out window to see if there is snow on the road or not
If not, fire up bike and ride to work rain or shine
At work for 8 to 10 hours not thinking about riding because I am far too busy
Get off work and ride home
Count the stack of cash I saved by not driving my pickup to work
Do it all over again the next day

You have it so good. Get up think about riding. Drive a van for seven months thinking about riding. Haul bike to Ohio and ride two miles. Drive home in rain thinking about riding. Then pull engine apart. Thinking about riding.

My commute is mostly through 2 lane farm land with a lot of double yellow and/or traffic coming the other way, so I too get stuck behind cagers (and lots of semi trucks)... On good days, I can pass a few, but on normal days, I'm stuck...

But once I get to actual freeway, then it opens up and most of the time, there isn't much traffic (I have a counter commute)...
