It's not a very good bill, but it's a good first step and a hell of a lot better than nothing. It limits splitting to freeways when traffic is going 10mph or less. Of course, traffic is so bad here that you'll be able to do it every day anyway.

I've written my senators multiple times to support it.

lane splitting has its foot in the door in oregon!

http://gov.oregonlive.com/bill/2015/SB694/

The senate approved a bill that lets bikes lane split on 50mph+ roads that are going less than 10mph. Its a start, i guess.

I live in Oregon and have been following this bill (and contacting my senators repeatedly). It has not been passed by the Senate yet, just yesterday it was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee (unanimously) and is now headed to the Senate floor for a vote. If the Senate passes it, then it goes to the House and will be referred to a committee there. That committee must pass it, after which it will go to the House floor for another vote. After passing that, it goes to the Governor's desk to be signed or vetoed.

If this bill passes into law, it will be the first law of it's kind in the US. No lane splitting bill has ever made as much progress as this one has in Oregon. Fingers crossed!

Where does it state 50+ mph roads only? I opened the pdf and saw the 10mph to stopped and the less then 20 mph but no mention of road type limitations. I also notice a part about in between lanes or adjacent to lanes of traffic. Does that last bit mean you could pass in a single lane situation as long as you can still do so while still being within the same lane?

Nice! I'm hoping more States follow suit. It can be a revenue generator as well. Those caught breaking the law = points and tickets. Maybe that'll convince other states to look into this.

Passed the Senate floor today 18-10! Goes to the House now, it will be read in and (probably) referred to a committee on the 27th.
