[motorcycle.com] - Lane Splitting Bills Introduced in Oregon, Washington and Montana


California motorcyclists may no longer be alone in this benefit. A previous version of the bill in the State of Oregon (SB. 694), for example, was rejected by the House in May of 2015. The AMA is prompting action, as indicated below.

Lane splitting bill introduced in Oregon – Contact your state senator today!

State Senator Jeff Kruse (R-Roseburg) has introduced a bill that would authorize responsible lane-splitting practices in the state.

Read the American Motorcyclist Association’s endorsement of responsible lane splitting here.

Kruse’s S.B. 385 would allow riders to split lanes at a speed of no more than 20 mph, if traffic is stopped or has slowed to a speed of 10 mph or less on certain roadways. This bill has been referred to the Senate Commission on Judiciary but has not yet been scheduled for a hearing.

The AMA is calling on all Oregon riders to support this bill by entering your information in the form available here and clicking on the red “Submit” button.

State Rep. Drew MacEwen (R-Belfair) has introduced a bill that would authorize responsible lane-splitting practices in the state.

Read the American Motorcyclist Association’s endorsement of responsible lane splitting here.

MacEwen’s H.B. 1157 would allow riders to split lanes at a speed of no more than 10 mph faster than other vehicles, if traffic is moving slower than 35 mph. This bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee but has not yet been scheduled for a hearing.

Lane splitting bill introduced in Montana – Contact your state senator today!

State Sen. Russel Tempel (R-Chester) introduced a bill that would authorize responsible lane-splitting practices in the state.

Tempel’s S.B. 134 would allow riders to split lanes at a speed of no more than 20 mph, if traffic is moving slower than 10 mph. This bill has been referred to the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee and a hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 26 in Room 405 of the Montana Capitol Building.
