Cool Cluster delete to just Tach.

Hey everyone!

Been building an 08 Ninja 250 into a racebike for this season, it's almost done, mostly just safety wiring left.

One thing I wanted to do was delete the cluster and just have a tachometer. Wondering if anyone had installed an aftermarket tach, and if so how well did it work. Trying to reduce the weight as much as possible and the cluster is one of the last items left that I could take off.

Any suggestion or ideas are welcome!

Thanks!

That's about what I was looking at. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything other than wire splicing. Don't really feel like messing around too much with it.

I've seen cutting and modding of the original dash to just leave the tach there, around on the forum just don't remember who did it.

Oh my way more work than wire splicing lol. I'm sure it's popular for the cafe/tracker conversions too to just have a tach.

I used a Mychron 5, works great and doubles as my lap timer/data logger. Has shift point lights, temp, etc. Really easy to install.

Do any of those cheap tachometers on ebay actually work? Anyone have real experience with one?

I'm going to install and see, I'll let you know. There's many mixed reviews on them. Usually people just use them for older bikes they customize or cafe.

If youre talking about the little black boxes with a digital number read out and hour guage, theyre pretty useless. I had one i used on a vintage single cylinder street bike and it was wildly inaccurate with quite a bit of lag.
