LED Fog Lights
Anyone have any experience with LED fog lights? I'm considering running them as my main lights (1) 3w for my low beam and two of them for the high beam. The only other LED lights I can find are chinese and I really avoid chinese products. I'm concerned about the obviousness of them because they're not approved for highway use.... I'm thinking I can angle them downward if they are too blinding but everyone's headlights I've seen on motorcycles are blinding anyways..... I'm just trying to keep my bike legal I don't like the $115+ tickets for not having this stuff...

In addition to angling down, you can use a cut-off plate, and I saw where someone else used tape.

I was thinking even cheaper for something that makes me more visible and just give a bit more light (short distance)

I like my Mondomoto LED lights.... a lot. The only thing that would make them better would be a dim-able option, but you could always pair it with the apropriate aftermarket LED dimmer.

if its not dot or e certified its considered illegal. led fog lights are something I would stay away from as headlights, they lack the correct beam pattern to be any use at night and have uncontrolled light spill. look into doing a his retro fit with projectors. much brighter and less power consumption |

I found 3W ones that wouldn't get so hot or be quite as annoyingly bright. How would these wire up? negative to the battery, then postitve tappeing into something? not sure what power I would tap into and if it would be overloading it?

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=751838 I did lots of research on these earlier this year, and determined these to be the best bang-for-the-buck. Don't go too cheap on these.

You'd just splice your stock headlight wires with these. I think running them in parallel with the headlight is actually good since they draw such low power. I was at cycle gear and they sell some $15 electronics that you hook up to LEDs when they flicker because of the low power draw running them standaloen....Forgot what it was called. A reducer or something similar.....

If this LED doesn't work I'll look up the HID retro fit to see what you're talking about.... I ride freestyle so I was trying to go the minimalist route just to stay legal but after riding w/ a smaller LED headlight (screwed into my broken headlight assembly) I don't think the floodlights are a good idea either.... It just doesn't do the trick.

One thing to keep in mind is if price includes wiring harness, switch, relay, all that good stuff.

So I won Ebay bid on couple of 1.5 a led daytime running lights for, $1.99. Please don't respond with..."those are gonna be crap, buy these" or "I would have gone with mondomoto"...blah, blah, blah. I just need help on how to write these up so that's don't need a switch and they will turn on when the bike turns on. Will these need a relay? Please help. Even hand written diagrams would be a huge help

Neg. to ground & pos. to pos. on headlight is the easiest. You probably don't NEED a relay, but an inline fuse is always recommended.

Red/Yel = Lo beam Red/blk = hi beam Blk/yel = ground Can hook them up however you want or even add a switch inline with the ignition so you can turn the lights on/off anytime the key is turned on with the separate switch. But like I said the low power draw might not be used best one it's own circuit but rather in unison with one or both of the beams (hi/lo).
