storing my bike?

It looks like Im gonna have to store my bike for about a month. Is there anything special I should do to it (other than disconnecting the battery and turning the petcock off) or will it be ok for a month or so?

Put Stabil in a full tank of gas and run it through, battery tender the battery and go away for your month or what ever. Put it up on the centre stand and wheels off of concrete and on plywood.

A month? Nothing. Keep it out of the rain and off the dirt. Unless your battery is going south and not holding a charge it'll easily go much longer than a month without discharging. Fuel won't change in that time, and neither will oil. The main thing is keeping it dry.

I wouldn't do anything other than to lock it up so that it doesn't get stolen while you are away.

You can solve all those suggestions with one more - bring it in the house!
Put a tarp or some plastic underneath the engine in case it wants to dribble on the floor.

do you recommend putting the bike on one or two bike stands? what is the purpose of the bike stand anyways?

What is wrong with the kick stand?

Nothing is wrong with the kickstand but i, like you, was wondering why NOT to use the kickstand...

but still what is the main reason for the bike stand? whats it use? is it to lessen the pressure off the suspension?

Multiple uses for bike stands if you work on your own bike. More convenience to do oil changes, clean/lube chain, etc. Necessary use are changing tires, fork seals, etc. For storing, bike stands are used so your tires don't develop a flat spot where it touches the ground.

And that is totally unnecessary for storing the bike, or leaving it sit, for a month. Nothing will happen to your tires.

WRT to bike stands, mainly they're used when there's no center/side stand already built in to use. Flat-spotting is a process that takes a long, long time, probably at least a year, and even then only if the tires are allowed to go low or flat. Just keep the tires aired up, and if you're really concerned just roll the bike a foot every month or two.
