Question Should I worry?

As you may know, I had a new pipe, K&N and jet kit installed and had the dealer adjust the carb.

When out riding last night, I heard a little backfiring. Not all the time, and only when I really romped through the gears. It was just enough to be noticable, not gunshot volume.

Any danger here? Should I go back and have them adjust some more or is it acceptable? I just don't want to damage the bike.

Thanks for the info, but that doesn't answer my question. The backfiring doesn't bother me, but I don't want to damage anything, that's what I am asking about. I'm not sure if the anatomy of the bike will react like an old V8 would.

exactly when are you getting the back fire? @decel and if so, what RPM range?

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. It backfired when I started it yesterday. Then I only heard it a couple of times when I was shifting (during the shift when I back off of the throttle) and it didn't seem to matter if I was really getting on it or just easy acceleration. It's pretty mild sounding, not gun blast loud.

at what rpm are you shifting when this is happening? some rough numbers?

backfiring at start is common, no matter stock or rejetted.

No idea on the RPM, but I can say that I have never ran it above 6000 (all the roads are 45 MPH around here). I will also say that the bike starts and idles perfectly now. I can start it and ride in less than a minute. Before I would have to let it warm up for 10 min and then ride it for 10 minutes before it would idle correctly.

you might want to try and remove the Kleen system as suggested or check the exhaust for possible leaks at the connections. Recheck the torque at the exhaust flange w/ a small torque wrench and assure yourself the header/muffler joint looks well sealed. I assume the shop used new exhaust gaskets at the head flanges?

OK, I guess I'll pull the Clean air out. It was a slip on so the original headers and gaskets were never touched.

Lol. I just came in from doing that. I put some high temp silicon gasket on the joint just to make sure. I'm going to be practical and start with the easy instead of pulling the bike all apart first (Like I usually do).
