ForceofWill's build log

Well, since I finally got my bike and have a bunch of mods coming, I figured I'd make a build log to follow for this bike from start to finish. Can't ride until after my MSF on Dec. 5th, so she's up on stands getting prepped for the mods to come this week.

Oh BTW, this is the first bike I've ever owned and to date I've never even ridden one lol. But man how I love modding and ripping things apart.

Up on the stands with rear seat removed(Have cowl for it later)

Fairings removed
*Like my ghetto paper towel roll stand for the computer? LOL gotta have the Ninjette DIY somehow in the garage.

Exhaust removed

The rest of the fairings, seat and passenger footpegs removed

That's all for tonight. Tomorrow will come the gas tank and air filter stuff. Plus i'll probably do an oil change and maintenance on the chain while I wait on more mods.

Stay tuned!

Can't wait to see what you do with it. I think they should start a "what mods do you have" thread or topic. Keep us posted!

I'm slightly confused... why did you remove the Area P exhaust? Are you putting something different on there or did you just feel like stripping apart the bike for the knowledge and practice?

Yeah, I was a bit confused myself why completely disassembling the bike was necessary but guess he's got some major plans...just hope nothing modded gets messed up on an early drop since this is his first bike and hasn't taken the MSF yet.

Goodies have arrived!

And this is why I removed the exhuast. Area P full stainless Race with the dynojet kit. Gonna remove stock intake stuff and put on the K&N and a breather at the same time.

Lots of Gear!
Bell Star w/ Photochromatic
Knox Handroids
Full set of Knox cold killers
Dainese Axial Pro In
Dainese Delta Pro pants
Sato Frame sliders
Proton Flushmounts
Wave G back protector

Mmmmm kangaroo

Unfortunately I think the pants are just a tad big, gonna have to return for 1 size down. No biggie since my jacket hasn't arrived from Italy anyway.

It's always something with vehicles, isn't it? I was taking the tank off and got to the big hose on the petcock. Take it off and get a small steady leak, no problem I think, just let the residual leak out into the towel I had handy. Keeps going for a bit so I grab a small 1gal gas can with a plastic hose shoved over the petcock outlet and let it drain, but it doesn't freaking stop. So I think maybe i'll get lucky and cycle it to pri from on then back to on. Dumb move lol, turned it to Pri and a large stream of gas starts pouring out. Back to on and it's still leaking.
LUCKY for me my gas tank is near full, lol So since I obviously have a broke petcock, I'm gonna have to rig up some stand over a 5 gal container to hold the tank while it drains lol.

Mod lesson #1: Stuff can't just work, it's always something.

Incase you didn't know, this is a super common problem with these bikes. It's just one of those little quirks they have. Like the squeaky front end, confused tach, unreliable fuel gauge. Not a huge problem, just a minor inconvenience.

Edit: By the way, those handroids are freaking AWESOME! I may get some for next season. Where did you get them and how much were they?

Yeah, I saw that it might happen in the DIY. I just wish my tank didn't have like 3 gallons of gas in it lol.

I got the handroids and all of that stuff on the ground from STG. Got a nice deal on a lot of the stuff including the Dainese by talking with someone there when I bundled a big order, but I paid retail of $249 for the gloves. I'm happy though, they look and feel awesome. I really dig the sliders on the palm and cuff and the little turn nob to tighten the gloves is super easy and works great.

Yeah, definitely gonna get some next year. Or.. who knows.. I'm about to sell my truck and after i pay off the bike with that money ill still have like $5k left. Then like $4k after the few things I want to do on the bike. I think these may be my next purchase.

Stock air filter removed, put new breather in. Gonna wait for filter until carbs are done. I officially hate that stock filter box, that thing can burn in hell.

My garage is a wreck lol. I'm keeping track of parts and where stuff goes by the section of the garage that parts are sitting in. I just finished putting the new needles and jets in the carbs and adjusting the air screws. Went with needles on 3rd notch, 108 jets and 2.75 turns out on screws. It seems like the air screw things won't be perfectly the same. I just had to eyeball each one with a screwdriver.

Gotta go to the store in a bit and get some plugs for the kleen air stuff. Then it's air filter on and I can start putting stuff back together.

Still waiting on my LED tail to get here Hopefully tomorrow.

Oh and 5 of 8 of the screws on the fuel bowls stripped. I had to dremel a notch into them all and use a flathead. I'm just glad they all finally came out. Thank god this dynojet kit comes with all new bolts for the top and bottom that are allan key.

Got rid of the kleen air and it's all plugged up. Just finished with the K&N on there. I used the stock rubber hoses that were attached to the carbs as spacers. You just have to cut the lip off the end and they will stick right into the K&N and then just clamp it up. Fits perfect, no touching anything.

Finished with everything except the front blinkers. I have some from Modmy250 coming soon hopefully.

Custom LED tail using integrated blinkers. Much cleaner I think without the blinkers

The cowl has like a 1 finger gap all the way around. It's not uneven and it fits nice, so it doesn't bother me that much. I don't think there's a way I could get it to sit against the paint anyway.

No not yet, the fairings have to come back off anyway. About to change the oil. Both wheels are off. I sent them to the shop for some Pirelli Sport Demons and gonna have the rims powder coated bronze while there. I went ahead and cleaned and lubed the chain now too. That thing was so dirty, it was crazy. I swear the PO never cleaned it.

You can make the rear cowl fit more flush by bending the front bracket on the cowl inwards a bit. Then you can shave the rubber stoppers a bit. Don't bend it too much though or else it will be really hard to lock it in place.

Finished changing the oil and put on front LED corners. Did the diode kit and a new relay as well. Everything working as it should.

I'm gonna take off those Ninja stickers now that I have the ZX2-R ones.

I think the bronze wheels will look great with that blue. How come you're gonna take off the Ninja logos? Don't like the look of too many stickers?

Yeah, I don't like where the ninja stickers are. I also might go to the proton corners too. Call me crazy but I bought both lol. Didn't know what I'd like better. At first I liked the triangles, now I don't know.

Try flipping the signals over and see if you like them a little better. I have the same ones from modmy250. I had mine like yours and didn't like them at all. So I flipped them over, and suddenly loved them.

If only the SE graphics didn't place the ninja logo in the way, I could line the signals up with the lines of the graphics...

My bike keeps making a whining sound every so often just sitting in my garage. I thought it was the vacuum line, since it only does it with the gas cap closed. After some research, I guess it's the cap itself. Oh well, good excuse for me to order a billet gas cap from slingshot(bronze) Went ahead and got the oil cap too in blue.

I also took the ninja stickers off the front fenders. I think it looks much cleaner now. Just gotta get some goo gone to get the residue off. My HIDs and projectors came in too. I don't know if I have the energy to tackle that project just yet though.

Wish I had your supply of cash

May I suggest a couple mods that will actually make a riding difference to you since you seem to have the funds for it. Woodcraft clipons (because they are the best answer out there) and a set of rear sets (there are many good answers to this one so you pick the brand) At least those mods will make a drastic change in how the bike feels

Yeah, definitely gonna look into that stuff soon. I just wanted to start learning to ride first before changing the handle bars. I know that might sound like an oxymoron after all the crap I've done to this bike already lol.

Waiting for the wife to go shopping, then it's out to the garage again, yay lol

I've known people that have done the drilling out the gas cap mod and it didn't fix the problem... I've grown to ignore the whine... really only does it with temp or pressure changes... not to big of a deal

I think its pretty neat, Ive come out of stores and what not to find people standing near my bike looking at it like there's something in it. lol Had one guy tell me there was a kitten trapped in it somewhere. Mine does it every few minutes, its pretty interesting to me so I dont mind it.

Got the wheels/tires back from the shop. New sport demons on them and powder coated a beautiful bronze. Putting them back on was a freaking ordeal in itself. The front tire, no problem, it went right on. The back tire, not so much lol. I put everything on the rear wheel and try and put it back on the bike. At first, I forget how the caliper mounts, takes me 5 minutes to figure that out lol. Then I hold it up and slide the axle in from the left, good done. Or am I lol.

I forgot to put that little metal box that has a guideline on it, on the axle before I slid it in. Crap, so I take it back out, which is a PITA, slide that thing on and put the axle back in. Good done. DANGIT, I just realized that the chain won't go over the sprocket after you put the axle in lol. I'm only used to cars still lol. So I have to take it BACK OUT, ugh. Put the chain over the sprocket and try and get the wheel back on right. Well, even with the adjustment screws all the way loose the damn axle won't go all the way in with the chain on. I tried for like 15 minutes until I realized that Kkim said he had to do it from the right side lol.

So I flipped the axle over so the bolt side is on the right and the nut on the left, opposite of stock and it went in, in like 3 seconds lol. It's cause of that freaking caliper on the right side. Finally, wheel on and axle in, now just to adjust chain slack and make sure it's aligned properly.

I made that tool in the ninja.org FAQ out of a steel pipe and clamps. I measured both sides after setting the chain slack, and surprisingly those little marks on the swingarm are almost right on in my bike. From what I read, everyone's are always way off. Once you get the dang rear back on, adjusting it for alignment is so easy with this tool I made. Great thing to have.

Now I'm just gonna get some crappy pics in the garage and get some good ones later.

Garage light went out, and it's not the lighbulbs. Might be the ballast FML. So here's some crappy flash only pics. I'll bust out the DLR for some destination pics later on.

Like the gold gas cap think it would look nice if you got it the same colour as the wheels as well.
