Oil Change with Liqui Moly 10w40? any idea?

Hi all,

thanks in advance for this possibly silly question. i bought Liqui Moly oil, but just realized that they are for cars, not for bikes. Any idea if it is good idea to use this on my 2004 Ninja 250 (EX250F18)?

Here is the specifics:

Liqui Moly 2042 MoS2 Anti-Friction 10W-40 Motor Oil - 1 Liter Bottle x 2

any comment is appreciated.

Do not guess....

Any oil that is "wet clutch" safe will have a JASO MA rating on the container. If not, take it back and exchange for something that is.

EDIT: my initial research says this oil will not work for your bike but not sure if you are running dino or synthetic

Not familiar with that specific oil, but any regular (conventional or synthetic - doesn't matter) automotive oil is not a good choice to run in a cycle engine.

The additives are no longer the same for auto and cycle oils. Auto oil lacks the proper amounts of Zinc and Phosphorus (ZDDP) for safe use in a typical motorcycle engine.

An exception would be a "race" or special auto oil with higher levels of ZDDP than the norm.

The inexpensive, easy to get, solution is an oil for diesel engines like Shell Rotella. Rotella T6 is pretty much the standard for cost conscious cycle owners requiring a 40-grade oil (like the Ninja).

Cycle-specific oils are obviously a good choice as well, but any benefit may not be worth the additional cost for some.

Like others have said, exchange. Can’t exchange? Buy something else with the same specifications as posted above.

Even if you get super expensive oil, you won’t be breaking the bank. The pregen holds exactly 2 quarts (when oil filter is also changed), and I’m pretty sure the 2008+ models have the exact same capacity.

Personally, I wouldn’t even consider buying anything that is not both name-brand, and synthetic. And like others have said, do not buy anything “energy conserving” or “anti friction”.

Any oil that says anti-friction is not to be used in wet clutch bikes.
