Fork reassembly

What's the easiest way to reassemble the forks? YouTube is pretty disappointing. I'm mainly having trouble with the clips. Is there a certain tool for the clip or just use a flathead?

This is probably basic sh!t but I just need a few pointers before I kill it with fire.

Thank you sirs and ma'am.

Ps: I'd appreciate if you just shared your knowledge instead of making smart remarks.
Thanks again.

If you did not drive the seal in far enough the snap ring will be a PITA.

It should go in with fingers all except maybe the last inch.

If it's not that clip, which one are you talking about? The one at the top of the forks?

The one at the top. Snap ring pliers. My gods they make a tool everything.

I'm pushing the cap down with another spacer. Enough room for the ring to seat on one side, but the opposite side will pop up.

Off to google land. If harbor freight has the pliers, that would be just wonderful.

NO NO! Those aren't snap rings, I was mistaken. gonna have to use a flat blade for this.

Snap rings have loops in the end of the clip with a hole in them. These aren't those...I looked it up.

If it's the wire ring at the top of the forks then the snap ring pliers aren't the right tool.
To get the ring out: a pointy tool like an awl works best to get behind the ring and lever it out of the slot.
To install the ring: press the cap past the slot, work one end of the ring into the slot (groove) and work around the ring with a regular flat screwdriver until the whole ring is seated in the slot. Release pressure on the cap and double check the ring is in the groove.

Okay so keep doing what I've been doing. The fork tube keeps sliding down when I put oil in it.

Ah well, the struggle is real. First world problems.

Thank you sirs. It's motivational to say the least Haha.

After you put the oil in, reinstall them into the triple clamps. Only tighten the bottom clamp so the top part of the tube isn't pinched.

This way the tube won't slide into the lower part.

What am I missing here
You don't put the caps on until you've filled the fork with oil to the level you want (stick with stock) with the fork compressed then install spring & spacer. The fork will be extended or there's no way in hell you'll get the cap on!

That'll do it. What a pain in the a55 that was. Got the clip in.

You both have been a great help. The triple tube trick worked. Chalk up another life lesson.

Harbor freight picks work well, only $1.99. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece...set-66836.html The ninjettewiki has some good info to help u along. Search the forum and there are other good threads as well.

Yeah, those look like they'd do a better job than the flathead.

Stock they don't have snap rings, but If you take the circlips out I highly recommend buying a pair of snap rings and replacing them, it makes life much easier when changing springs or oil weights. (Ask me how I know)

I skipped chest day at the gym, so I did my forks.

But yeah, snap rings at home depot apparently. For now, I need a pipe cutter for the spacers.

I didn't want to destroy my stock spacers, so I bought some plastic pipe (it wasn't pvc, because whatever material this is fit better) and cut it with a compound miter saw.

The white, schedule 40 pipe (3/4"), not the grey pipe (electrical conduit) or the black ABS pipe.

I also use a washer between the spring & plastic pipe for a better seat for the pipe.

PVC is White, eletrical is grey, ABS is black, the stuff I used was ivory with a yellow stripe.
