Chinese gaskets

As I'm a frugal (cheap?) old Norwegian the $40-$70 cost of a valve cover gasket put me off. Of course Ebay saved the day w a $21 price. It arrived and I discovered some issues. It is flat surfaced rather than having the sealing ridges molded in and the lower edges that go over the sides of the head have no cutouts. This is no biggie as I'm a retired mechanic. With a little trimming and a coating of sealer I'm not worried about leaks. GJ

Of course the advantage of the Kawasaki version is that it seals without sealer, and can be reused many times when doing valve adjustments without having to clean the sealer off each time.

Regardless of origin, I put tiny bit of FIPG sealant (Toyota, Yamabond-3, Permatex Grey) on flat mating surface and nothing on grooved side. Found this allows to remove and re-install cover without ripping gasket off or apart. Goes back together easily without leaks.
