really? spray cans? My spray cans say that you should work in room temperatures, as it was designed for that.
So I believe heating it wouldn't ameliorate the orange peel.
Heating the paint would make the fluids vaporize even faster, which is mostly what already caused the orange peel in my opinion.

I did two different jobs:

1) The repair:
- grinding the cracks
- smoothen it out with sandpaper
- apply putty
- reshape using sandpaper

2) The paintjob:
- sanding every little piece of plastic I could find... EVERYTHING!!!
- degreasing
- primer x3
- color x3
- clearcoat x2

So the answer of your question depends of what job you were talking about
Anyhow, I didn't take pictures of the whole process as I hadn't thought of documenting it

Works great for me, don't want boiling water, just warm

This one time I repainted my bike. I did it for $100

But I have the unfair advantage of having a 65,000 paint booth at my disposal, and uncle who is a painter, a grandfather who is a former body repair man and has pretty much everything I needed in his garage minus the paint... I also just used a single stage though.
