new gen gas tank venting issues

I have used my 2012 250 Ninja on several long trips. When I get about 150 miles on a tank it stalls out. This is a continual problem. Thinking it was the tank bag I removed it and it did it later. Coming back from Daytona on I 95 that stalling wasn't good so, I left the gas cap open slightly and it never stalled again. Shop manual says do not blow through cap it could cause problems in the labriynth system inside gas tank. I'm thinking I'll remove cap assembly and try and check that out thoroughly but now that the manual says don't blow through the vent pipes I'm not sure how to check for obstructions in the tank piping. Anyone help here?

When I powder coat tanks I have to chemical strip and sandblast.. (Tank off bike and fuel pump removed) so I blow air through the entire tank ...

My guess is they don't want you blowing through it while attached to bike..

maybe because it has emissions controls attached and that could foul them up??

I am pulling gas cap thats the easiest thing right now and disassembling it to vefiy woorking and venting propoerly.

Funny thing I do not recall any venting issues when I put petcock to "PRI"

the little rubber vent in the gas cap sometimes is too tight or something and wont vent and has to be expanded.

how do you expand that little rubber thing?
Was thinking of pulling tank then reverse blowing through the tubes??

I had a similar issue like yours before. A cap that does not vent properly can cause improper fuel flow, especially when the engine and ambient temps are high. Carb bowls don't fill up properly therefore you get some fuel starvation, even to the point of a shutdown in some cases.

I took my gas cap off and completely disassembled it. Inside, around the too small one-way diaphragms were white crystals where gas vapors had dried. Every piece of rubber was cleaned and the key tumbler re-lubed, then re-assembled. I also did the gas cap mod and made a few of the vent holes a tad bit bigger. It does not necessarily get rid of the whistling noise, but I have not had a problem since.

DaBlue 1 thanks for reply. Bike shut off on I95 at 72 mph got a little warning but barely got over almost got punted!

I don't recall any problems when I shift the petcock to PRIMARY but I am disassembling the cap tomorrow and drilling the vent holes slightly larger.
