Got Personalized Plates?
I just went and picked up my personalized plates today after waiting three months to only be disappointed!
1. It was nothing what I have seen before or what I checked out on the DMV site. 2. The plate had some nicks on the lettering and black smudges on the plate. 3. They handed me a sticker to put on my plate for the veteran organization I donated to instead of it being pressed on there like I had thought it would be. 4. The sticker was too long and had to be cut down to fit the spot where it was suppose to be placed. After already putting it on I realized I should have trimmed the width of it as well, as that too was too wide and because of the bottom part of the one it had pushed it over and is now not straight. The positive is that the sticker is of great quality, but the bad was that I couldn't get it off to straighten it without it ripping. 5. It is a veteran plate, but there is no 'Veteran' representation on the plate it's self. I have seen and assumed that it would say veteran in blue across the bottom. I asked the lady what was the deal and she said they have made some budget cuts and that is why there are some differences. I of course mentioned that I paid money for this and should have got what I wanted or thought I was getting. Needless to say they basically said they are not responsible for my assumptions. Since the plates are made by such wonderful citizens in the first place I guess I should be so thankful that I didn't have to pay more (sarcasm). You can find a picture of my plate in my photo album. |

Aww, that's a bummer about the sticker being the wrong size. CA only does plain plates for motorcycles, though; they explain the sticker part on the website. http://dmv.ca.gov/online/elp/elp_mc.htm#veteran-plate
That's stupid that they make you put on a sticker and have the darn thing not fit. I'd be really annoyed about that.

Yeah, all plates are made by prisoners here in the State of California, which is why I made the sarcastic remark.
Ok, so I stand corrected! Apparently, the California Veteran plate only comes blank unless you are a recipient of a prestigious medal like the Purple Heart, and then and only then will you get everything pressed and colored like the license number along with having veteran or the name of the medal on the bottom. I have been so pissed about this that I did some research and confirmed that this is what I was seeing along with the regular vehicle plates and got confused. It's my fault really for not double checking and allowing myself to assume and pay so much for a cheap product, but on the other hand they are suppose to be donating it, so I don't feel too bad. However, what I just realized and that upsets me the most is the fact that I distinctly remember telling them I wanted the 'Veteran' designated plates and they even had me give them a copy of my VA card, but according to what they are now saying on their website you don't even have to be a Veteran to get what I got. Oh, well lesson learned. |

The title of the thread makes it sound like it's a discussion of custom/pesonalized/vanitty/prestige plates, so why not?
My bike is still registered in GA because I will be returning there. Anyway, Georgia only allows 6 characters. Can anyone suggest a good Nintendo-themed one? The bike is blue and will soon have an F-Zero/Blue Falcon/Captain Falcon theme. F-ZERO (assuming they allow hyphens [edit: they don't])? Well, I'm not really that into the particular game. It's just a very fitting Nintendo property to theme a blue bike with. I think that tag is too "direct" anyway. FALCON? It's already going to have "BLUE FALCON" lettering on each side. CP FLCN? Well, it is Candy Plasma Blue. Captain Falcon does strike me as the vain type. :P NNTNDO? Ugh. Too obsfucated and forced? PUNCH!? I like this one, assuming they allow exclamation points [edit: they don't. FPUNCH?]. From his "Falcon Punch" move in Super Smash Brothers. PAWNCH? I'd much prefer this if it had room for an exclamation. It's an in-joke derived from his oft-maligned pronunciation of the move in-game ("Falcon... PAWNCH!"). Is it illegal to ADD punctuation to a plate yourself? Any other ideas? Has there ever been a cut scene or some joke with the Blue Falcon having a vanity plate already? Ah! I think I've got it: BLUSHL
It's a threat to anyone ahead of me and refereneces my color. It comes from a Mario Kart item that seeks out the racer in first place and takes them out. Any die-hard Nintendo fan or Mario Kart player will get it. The problem is that it and its variants, like BLU5HL, are likely already taken in GA and there's no way to check pre-application. There, you must specify three options in your submission and they give you the first that is available. BSHELL: I wonder if this would be rejected for having "BS" and "HELL" B5HELL: Perhaps this is a little more likely to slip by Though "REDSHL/RDSHEL/RSHELL" would be equally cool (Mario Kart item that seeks the closest player and takes them out; best shell in Battle Mode), I'd want a red bike for it. Green shells usually missed and weren't much use except for skilled players, so most wouldn't recognize that as a threat. I feel sorry for Nintendo fans with Kawi green bikes. Stick with a Yoshi theme? Luigi? If I had to keeo trying, I'd try these: NTENDO N1ODOE/NIODOE N1ODOH/NIODOH N1O DO/NIO DO (space counts as a character) EN1ODO/ENIODO Note: GA says that they have the same die for the letter O and the number zero. I assume this applies to motorcycle plates too. Last futzed with by CZroe; May 28th, 2011 at 06:52 PM. |

I think the only way you would be declined is for something is by stating a word completely. Like F**k. Orr something along the lines of that. I actually thought it was B Shell. So im sure there's many ways to look at it. x-) Speaking of custom plates, (just going along with the guys above), I want to get my plates to either said The250r or The250 or My250r. I know The250r is available. It'll save me a lot of explaining lol. As for the OP: That really does suck. You would think they'd at least give someone who served for our country a better quality service. If it were me, I'd do what they do for people who earned higher medals, and just always put the medal a person earned on the plate. It'd only be fair. After all, if you went out and fought, you risked your life all the same (Technically speaking. I know it does vary a lot.) |

Another vanity plate thread
I need to go register my new bike soon and was going to get a vanity plate. I can't look up availability online due to the way IN bmv site works. You have to actually look up availability for a particular bike on your online account. My old bike has been removed and my new one is not on it yet. A couple of these I checked a couple of weeks ago and were available, most I thought of since.
Which should make the short list to take to the bmv? Also any other suggestions? Some are MC related some will show how much of a dork I really am! Avail 2-3 weeks ago NINJA1 NINJA2 NINJAR QTRLTR UNKNOWN AVAIL 250CC 250PWR NON MC (dorky) DNA 42 TOWEL or TOWEL1 DNTPNC or DNTPAN MILWAY FSM AR NOODLY ARRRRG kinda thinking NINJA1 or DNA 42 opinions? |

In Kentucky we're allowed six alpha-numeric symbols. My faves:
