squids will be squids

so, this guy at the gym i go to used to have a ninjette. he got rid of it a month ago to upgrade to a cbr600 f4i because the ninjette is too "slow" i explained to him about actually "riding" the bike and not just a "A to B ASAP" kinda thing. cant really say much, but its his bike, his life, his choice.

thats not all. he never wears any gear. says the helmet "limits" his vision and he loves the air against his face no helmet, no pants, no jacket, no shoes. yea, here in hawaii gets REALLY hot at times, but i still suit up. he even admits: "the way i ride, i'll go SPLAT if i mess up". now hes been wanting to go on rides with me or on group rides. i tell him "yea..later on, when im not too busy"....other then that, i dont know what else to tell him because sure as heck i or the group dont need to be riding around with that kinda person. esp if its deals A LOT with safety issues.

/Rant

Tell him straight up; be honest. We don't ride with people who choose not to wear gear because we feel ____. If he argues then just say I'm sorry that's how the group feels.

I agree with Max. Tell him that if he wants to ride with the group that he needs to be wearing gear or he's on his own. Group rules are group rules, end of story.

I dont get how people ride with no gear. The other day the worlds smallest bug hit me on the neck at 50 miles per hour, it stung a bit for a while. I couldnt imagine to the face. And to top that, I had a bug splatter on my face shield right were my eye was. I couldnt imagine it without my visor being there. Anyways, squid is, as squid does I guess.

if he says the helmet ruins his vision he should be riding a bike. It was proven that it doesn't AT ALL

just tell him you only ride with mature people that means wearing gear

saying that a helmet limits his vision is just idiotic. tell him to enjoy his vision when bugs, wind, debris, and miscellaneous sh*t gets in his face while hes riding

The only vision it restricts is a little bit straight down from my eyes so when I look at the speedo, I have to physically look down, instead of just glancing like in a car. But if that's the reason for not wearing a helmet, that seems like he doesn't want to wear one in the first place and is just making up excuses

True, full faced helmets limit the extreme outer peripheral vision, but a 20 gram bug to the cornea (at 65mph) will limit ALL of your vision...not to mention what the asphalt does to skin...nerves...cranium...the asphalt becomes a sinuous belt sander and you become the woodshop project...

Agreed.

I also don't understand how people can ride without helmets on. WTF are they thinking? I can't imagine having rock chips hit me in the face without a helmet on. I had one bounce right off of my visor once. Definitely scared me & made me glad I had a helmet on.
WTF kind of moron says helmets ruin his sight? He definitely is lacking some brain cells.

Even if he bought gear just to ride with me, I probably still wouldn't want him around. It's completely his choice whether he wants to wear gear or not, but, if he's not wise enough to decide to wear gear of his own accord then he's probably not wise in many other areas too; including how he rides. I'd be worried about him flying into the back of my bike if I came to a stop or him trying to keep up with people above his skill level, crashing, and ruining the ride.
