Exclamation Went to a MOTORCYCLE ;) dealer...

and looked at a bunch of motorbikes. Sat on a new-gen for the first time. Feels different. They only had one in stock and I think it's already someones as it has a tag saying "Ninja 250R Winner". I can flat foot it which is very nice haha. Fun expierience, didn't try any helmets on because I just got a haircut and didn't want to ruin their helmets. They only had HJC anyway One of the employees was nice enough to move the a KLX(65 I think?) out of the way so I could get on. I was really surprised as how much I strained my leg when I tossed it over. I need to get new jeans because these are too small. Thank you employee for moving it the other bike over. I didn't want to knock that little thing over. I asked the guy the minimum inseam required and he said 26" and said I was to short (I have a inseam of 32"). Then when I walked over to the 250R he realized I was talking about a Ninja and not a KLX. I was really uncomfortable in the dealership as the guy was staring at me every once in a while. Can't blame him because my little brother was staring at a Z1000 and KLR650R (Blasphemy). Well, my story is over.

Conclusion: Overall fun and interesting ten minute experience of walking around and 20 second experience of sitting on the bike. I still want a ninjette (even more now).

Here are my crappy pictures

hahahaha oh wow.

Get back in there and try on those helmets and sit on the bikes again. There are probably worse things in those than a few of your newly cut hairs...

I wanted to but only had 10 mins. I went over my time limit anyway (my mom was nice enough to give me a ride there).

I was being nice, and didn't want to ruin there helmets even though they could just clean it. I would've, but didn't.

If you finance a new bike, you'll be forced to carry more insurance. So unless you can pay for the whole bike at once, don't get a new one. My friend bought a new 250 this summer, and payed for it in whole, in cash. His insurance is only a little more than mine. We both have progressive, and have almost the same coverage.

If you do the Kawi financing full coverage is not required. It's technically a credit card

I want to get a new one, because
  1. I won't be upgrading for a LONG time.
  2. People ruin them by 'stunting' and you never know how many times they hit the rev limiter and held it there.
  3. I kind of have a 'OCD' thing where I don't want to touch previously used stuff. I'd constantly want to wash my hands after touching it. I hate germs.

mehhh I dont buy new things.

Not that many people "stunt" on a 250. Honestly. For most its their starter bike.

New vehicles cost more then devalue quickly its generally better to buy used. Ive bought ONE new car in my life time. (ive only 6 including my bike) and Ive always only lost a little bit of money on the initial purchase price. granted I mod the **** out of every car I own...

but seriously used>new

especially for a new rider.

I will most likely buy used...but if I do have enough to pay in cash, I'm sorry to say, I want the new one. I was planning on taking off the fairings for the first month.

Taking off the fairings may be a bad idea. Im pretty sure it'll affect the way the ride feels. But I could be wrong. I went for new and am doing good so far. I'd say buy frame sliders when you get the chance. But I havnt yet. I'm getting all the bigger things (in my oppenion) out of the way. just my two cents.

I was planning on only take off the side fairings and getting frame sliders to protect the engine. At least then there would be MINIMUM damage. Not sure if I will. It would depend how comfortable and confident I'd feel when riding during MSF.

1. That's what I said when I bought my bike. I love my bike, but immediately upon riding a bigger bike, I wanted it. I won't give up my bike for the world because I LOVE IT and it makes the most sense for my riding/financial needs, but there currently IS that lust that I thought wouldn't ever exist right when I bought it.

2. 250's are hard to wheelie compared to a bigger bike. They are also harder to stoppie, and pretty much harder to do all sorts of stunting on because they're small and have less power and have smaller brakes etc. Look at how much work ninja250 (Casey) has done to his bike to get it to be his stunt bike.

3. when you realize how much money you'll spend on a new bike compared to a used bike, suddenly those "used bike germs" don't seem so bad. I bought my bike while still in high school. I worked 56 hours/week between 2 jobs last summer, and full time the summer before that, and I worked 20 hours a week at the same time as high school for the middle of my sophomore year through the end of my senior year. new bike is $5000 OTD (not an expert here. does that sound about right to all yall that bought a new bike?) vs my bike was $1600 and was 100% stock and WELL taken care of. 5k is a lot of money at minimum wage and 20 hours a week.

4. you're going to drop it. First timers drop their bikes. Mine has been down in my driveway. It wasn't moving, but I kept the bent brake lever to remind me to be more careful. (plus it was a free shorty lever ) this thread shows what I mean:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...dropped+months
wouldn't you rather drop a bike that you payed 2k for instead of a brand new shiny baby that you payed a bunch for?

Frame sliders will do more damage to the engine than protect it.

I don't think you understand the whole germ thing. I can barely hold a girls hand...I know I would want to upgrade, but it wouldn't happen as I'd be paying for other stuff and raising for college.

I thought that's what the whole point of the frame sliders? Not to protect the fairings but the engine. I read in the Wiki that they were first used to protected their precious engines.

The frame sliders rest on the engine transferring any impact energy they recieve directly to the part you are trying to protect.

haha well I'll bet you can barely hold a girls hand because you're not even 16, but that's not entirely relevant here. I'm just joshing you here; I know that germs are a make it or brake it deal with some people. But its a motorcycle that would be 100% yours. Doesn't that awesome feeling trump the hatred of germs? I still feel like the coolest person ever when I mount my own ninja that I worked for all by myself and work on myself.

If the germs bug you that bad, you can wipe down every control surface and every part of the bodywork/seat/gauges/whatever with a Clorox wipe.

we may not understand the 'germ thing' but you don't seem to understand the fact that as soon as you drive that bike off the dealer lot you just lost $500. New cars and bikes drop value like crazy right after you get them. Getting a used bike allows you to drop the thing (and it will happen) without worrying about losing an obscene amount of value. And what germs do you think your gonna get? You should be wearing gloves so technically you would be better off than opening the front door of your house, there is a wonderful invention know as lysol, use it.

It should be fine so long as you keep away from stuff that would get extremely hot like the exhaust and engine. And chain. I think it prefers chain lube to clorox.

No it would'nt hurt anything. i feel that your excuse of germs for not wanting to buy a used one is irrelevant because, the guy that assembled that new bike wasn't wearing gloves, and the people that sit on them in the dealership most likely weren't wearing gloves. No matter what any bike you have would have germs on it.

Im not sure if you'd be happy with motorcycling if this were a complete fear. Nothing like thinking its raining, then realizing you were just riding through a bunch of bugs at night, to make you feel a bit gross. Also all the exhaust and what not. Not bashing here, just making a point. I had one bug last night that went splat right where my eye was, he was very green on the inside.... well... now outside. You get the point. Just something to think about. But when you got the fever, you'll get over it lol. Nothing more fun then two wheels.

I don't think you understand. You will drop your bike. I did the 2nd day I had it. It is the worst feeling ever and I bought it used for 3300. If you buy a new one at 5500 and drop it your out at least 2500 dollars and at minimum wage that's 333 hours worth of work down the drain. The math just doesn't make sense to me and looking 2500 if you drop that is a generous number. Most bikes around here that have Ben dropped go for 250 or less. that makes no sense your are just wasting money you could invest in gear or your next bike.2500 to 3 grand is not worth a couple of germs and the even worse feeling when you drop it and realize the mistake you made buying new. It makes no sense to me for a 15 year old to spend serious money like that. I'm just looking out for you because ive been through that. less.

Nothing at all. Just didn't get a chance to try it on, and I was just complaining of there limited choices. But I think they have so little because it seems like they moved everything out for snowmobile season. They didn't even have motorcycle jackets/boots/pants.

Ever heard of what OCD with germs is?

Most likely not, it is a real mental problem and it effects people's lives WAY too much, so don't use the "I have OCD" excuse because you don't want used...the new have just as many germs.
p.s people mostly touch handle bars so buy disinfectant and the germs are gone!

and yeahh... as OGjackafiddy said; why would you dump 5500 into a new bike buddy? your 15 and if that thing starts falling on you, you will not catch it and pick it back up.
