My track/race 250 'build'

thought i'd share here.

so picked this bad boy at ECR on 3/12. handed the cash over, hopped on and did my licensing. thing is a blast! it has 2 settings, WFO or brake, no in between. its so light it wants to dive into turns, and every lap i found myself braking later than the last. i think it tops out about 110mph with me on it, and in turns its ALL corner speed. it pulls on other 250's in the straights, and i was catching and passing bigger bikes in corners. can't wait to take it on the track, kinda sucks that it isn't street legal

while i'll admit the camo is neat, not my style so it's gonna be getting a fresh (rattle-can) paintjob. took it apart, went over everything, tightened bolts, zip-tied things out of the way, mounted the cluster so it won't move around. took off all the plastics, removed all the old decals, cleaned out the bellypan, took off and drained the tank. bike is already fully safety-wired (WERA spec). time for pics.

sitting in its new home

plastics come off.

bodywork isn't 'that bad'.

i've never taken a tank off before, or torn into a bike for that matter. well i guess if you count the xr50, but whatever.

wonder whats under here? hmm so i unplug those hoses, is gas gonna spill everywhere? =P

necessity is the mother of invention

ok, ready for sanding

naked.

finished product.

a friend was awesome enough to help with the rattle-canning. plastics were rough to begin with, and he did a great job with what he had to work with. i'm happy with the results, i like it better than the camo thats for sure.

tank is on

BOOM!

whats the rule, '5ft or 50mph'?

Really like the paint scheme. What performance mods came with the bike? I see a full Area-P, exhaust hanger, rear sets, clip ons, new rear shock, and imma guess jetted. What else ya got on that bad boy?

man you nailed it. woodcraft clip-ons and rearsets, full area-P (tuned & jetted), gsxr600 rear shock. keeping what you didn't get on the DL in case the competition is looking

if there is interest, i can post the write up of my first race weekend too.

is the gsxr600 rear shock a drop in mod or does it need some customizing?

Looking good. I like the black with bright Orange. Is the GSXR shock a drop-in or does it require some "work"?

since i bought it pretty much race ready, i'm not 100% sure on the shock. i wanna say it should just bolt up, but i think i has a few washers (spacers). i'll find out for you guys.

06-07 gsxr 600 rear shock, to fit it you need spacers and longer bolts.

on a pregen (the shocks are the same sept for length...)

you have to drill out the lower portion of the GSXR shock, and widen it, and put in a larger bushing in the top. which requires you to bore out the top part....

will be the same on a newer bike, IF the pre and post gen shocks have the same size holes and ears.

VERY nive looking bike man!
