Koso Rx1 or Rx2 gauge contents and extras?

Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before but the search brings up a lot of info on people who have installed it but not what I am looking for.

I'm considering buying either the Koso RX-1N GP Style Multi-functions or Koso RX-2N GP Style Multi-functions 20 000 RPM for my 2012 Ninja 250 (carbed model).

Now I know that for the RX2 I have to buy an adapter board or else it will not fit.

But what I am mildly confused about is what the box for each actually contains, they show a picture but don't provide a list and the main reason I am confused is that on their product page they also list a bunch of "optional" cables and sensors. SO I am unsure If by just buying the gauge I will have a complete product or not.

As a side question, what's the major difference between the Rx1 and the Rx2 and which do you folk prefer?

It depends where you buy it. You can buy just the gauge or the 250r specific kit.

The kit should come with everything you need to make it plug and play.

As an example for the RX2, this is what I got from RaceTech

The two bags labeled KOSO are the adapter plate and the optional Ninja 250 specific plug and play harness.

The other bags are the actual individual wires and connectors that you would need to hook everything up if you did not have the plug and play kit, as well as the magnetic speed sensor that you would hook up to the front wheel instead of the mechanical stock speed cable (the plug n play kit allows for the stock speedometer cable to be used since it has an adapter as well).

There are also parts that hold temp sensors for your radiator hose and oil plug if the unit you buy has those as part of the display (the blue pieces in the plug and play bag).

That help?

Ignore the bag on the far lower right, that's the voltmeter included as part of the group buy.

I think It does but because I am extra thick in the head I am just going to try and confirm things differently.

This is straight from Koso's website when I look at the RX-2N GP Style Multi-functions 20 000 RPM

  • Plug & Play Kit for RX2N – Ninja 250 (Carburetor) <--- Should Get this
  • Adapter Board – for RX-2N Gauge – Ninja 250 <--- Must get this
  • Plug & Play Kit for RX2N – Ninja 250 (Injection) <--- Not for my bike
  • Speed Sensor Bracket – “L” Type <--- Don't Need if I get the PNP Kit
  • Oil Drain Plug Adapter <--- In the PNP Kit
  • Speed Signal Converter D – White JST Connecter <--- In the PNP Kit?
  • Speed Signal Converter C – White JST Connecter <--- In the PNP Kit?
  • Water Hose Adapter (Sensor Not Included) <--- In the PNP Kit
  • Water temperature sensor adaptor <--- Not sure
  • Temperature Sensor (0-250°C) (32-482°F) – White JST Connecter <-- Not Sure
  • Hexagone Magnet Screw <--- In the PNP Kit
  • Cylinder head temperature sensor 0-250C (32-482F) (with JST water-proof connector) <-- Not Sure

I think there's supposed to be a sensor for the oil too but I don't see it listed on the gauges page or is the Temperature Sensor (0-250°C) (32-482°F) – White JST Connecter for the oil and for the water hose?

Let's see if I can figure out the parts by looking at pictures.
  • Plug & Play Kit for RX2N – Ninja 250 (Carburetor) <--- Should Get this
    Correct

  • Adapter Board – for RX-2N Gauge – Ninja 250 <--- Must get this
It's not a "must" but makes things so much easier.

  • Plug & Play Kit for RX2N – Ninja 250 (Injection) <--- Not for my bike
    Correct

  • Speed Sensor Bracket – “L” Type <--- Don't Need if I get the PNP Kit
    Correct

  • Oil Drain Plug Adapter <--- In the PNP Kit
    Correct

  • Temperature Sensor (0-250°C) (32-482°F) – White JST Connecter <-- Not Sure
Based on the picture, this is the same as the oil plug adapter and sensor. I broke my original sensor and bought this as a replacement.

  • Speed Signal Converter D – White JST Connecter <--- In the PNP Kit?
Based on the picture, no. I don't recall getting this replacement speedo cable.

  • Speed Signal Converter C – White JST Connecter <--- In the PNP Kit?
Correct. This is the part that connects the existing speedo cable to the Koso.

  • Water Hose Adapter (Sensor Not Included) <--- In the PNP Kit
    Correct

  • Water temperature sensor adaptor <--- Not sure
Er, looks like the same as above but with the sensor.

  • Hexagone Magnet Screw <--- In the PNP Kit
I don't recall this part. If included, not needed.

  • Cylinder head temperature sensor 0-250C (32-482F) (with JST water-proof connector) <-- Not Sure
Me neither, another part I don't recognize. This looks like it goes on/under the spark plug.

The brass sensors for the oil and water that go into the blue adaptors are both the same. They both came in my kit, but am not finding them listed on the site.

The Koso box comes with all the bits needed to install it. The plug and play kit and adapter board, as far as I know are additional purchases.

Clear as mud?

Yes, thank you.

Got burned once or twice when I bought other parts for my baby where it was like "Everything's included... except that one part you're going to need to actually make it work, that costs extra." So now I'm paranoid

Now that I've got that sorted, time to try and find a decent HID kit.

I do recommend going through Racetech, good guys that have sold a number of kits to us Ninjetters. They also have a great DIY video.

If you care about your odometer, you can order the gauge directly from Koso and in the factory they can preprogram the mileage. Once it leaves the factory, you can't adjust the mileage ... Unless you use the fan method and just fake out the sensors.

I'll keep them in mind but I think I might try to find a Canadian Re-seller first just so I can possibly avoid any customs charges and murderous exchange rates :P

to be fair, i live about an hour away from toranto california. there are 8 torantos in the USA, 1 in the UK, 1 in Australia, and something like 3 in canada. so there's really no telling what country he/she was from. my vote would have been australia though.

I guess I should have punctuated my sentences with a couple of "Eh!"

Hey guys. I just bought the RX-2+ and I can't seem to find the plug and play (carburator) or the adapter mount anywhere. I was thinking about making an adapter mount out of abs plastic, but is it possible to install without the kit. Should I purchase anything else to make it fully functional? Its my understanding that it doesn't come with the temp sensor for oil or coolant. Please help!

I have installed the RX2 without the Plug&Play kit and Im very happy with it. Just needed the wiring diagram and some soldering

in this post you will see the plate I made, that was improved using actual carbon fiber...

https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=291585

And here, at #8, a photo of the RX2 installled.

https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...73#post1175173

My RX2 included the water temp sensor that fitted right on the OEM sensor spot, oil temp sensor, all the cables and speed sensor and magnets.

Hopefully this helps
