Ok ebay help...yes another scam?

Ok so Im selling my blackberry curve and just placed it up for sale on ebay today for a 7 day auction. Starting bid was 99 cents and the buy it now price was 200.00$. So before even getting a bid, phone is sold on buy it now! But then I notice something. The address is in Nigeria and the buyer just created his ebay account today. Then I get a message from the buyer asking the condition of the phone, which is clearly stated in the ad, because the phone is for his cousin and he doesnt wanna buy a garbage one.

So this totally seems like a scam, I've heard plenty of stories of these scams run out of Africa. Now my question is this. If the buyer pays via paypal and I send the phone, can I get screwed? Also, if I decide this is a scam and dont wish to send the phone, how do I not sell it to him while retaining my 100% good reputation on ebay. Thanks guys!

I would make sure he paid and checked to see if the funds were in the account, and also put a tracking on the package to make sure it got to where it was going for Proof that you sent it. Maybe also some insurance! For that just in case scenario if there was some sort of issues. Better to be safe than sorry! Take all necessary precautions and if you dont feel like selling it to the buyer, try contacting someone from Ebay to see if there was something that could be worked out, or paypal.

I would say that you shouldn't even think of sending the phone till you know that the money is sitting in your bank account.

He will probably e-mail you and offer to pay way more than its worth, and add more money for shipping...then he will give you some excuse about how he isnt in the country, and wants you to ship it to his _______(fill in the blank, cousin, brother, uncle, etc) via his shipping agent. Then he will send you some bogus cashiers check that isnt worth the paper its bubblejetted on, or process the payment through paypal. Once you ship the item...he will call "fraud" on paypal saying he never got the product...and paypal will check and notice that it was shipped to a name not associated with his acct to an address not associated with his acct....they will block the payment, and you will be stuck with no money and no product, and a mail fraud charge.

Dont waste your time with that piece of nigerian crap. Report his sorry scamming butt to ebay. And re-auction the product.

I got about 50 emails from Nigerians over 400 feedback. I always tell them it will be an extra 200$ to have it shipped to Nigeria and only payable in cash or money order. They usually don't respond after this

There is a way to set it up so that only bidders with a certain rating can bid, or with no negative can bid. I would recommend this for the future.

try going to the resolution center under (help) at the top of your e-bay page, click on the (my problem is not here) next to the continue button, on the next page click (see more topics). Then you can type in your question ( i dont want to sell to the buyer) in that part. They will ask for the item number and you should get help from e-bay. Good luck.

Maybe it is because I am an "Old Fahht" and not particularly computer savy--I just don`t trust E-bay. A friend, another OF, bought a brand new in the box Nolan 103 helmet for $275. It did not fit him so he tried to send it back--no go. Well, the helmet fits me perfectly. It is School Bus Yellow--then again everything does not have to be color coordinated. I told him I would buy it and he said, fine, for $150. He wouldn`t take more. He said it was "Tuition". His contention is that you never make mistakes--you just pay tuition one way or another. My preference is to stay local--within reason. I use "Uncle Henry`s"--a weekly publication in Maine and adjoining states. You can get anything from 40`Sailboats to fenders that will fit a Schwinn Cruiser. I have seen a couple Ninjettes from time to time. The beauty is that you can call the person and deal with a real person---ride over and check it out, and then buy if iti is what you want. You also get to meet some neat people. The longest I ever drove was 124mi one way for a piece of furniture my wife really wanted but we could not afford. We got the piece in great condition for what we could afford, met some nice people, and everybody was happy. I do buy on line from people who are reputable, like Dennis Kirk and Bike Nashbar.

its his fault he didn't try it on... or read the returns policy. I always buy stuff online. As for the OP, don't do it. Even if he does send paypal he will probably make a claim and paypal always sides with the buyers.

Andrew, You are right--but in any event I ended up with a great helmet at a phenomenal price. I never really had the patience to play the bidding game on Ebay. I prefer dealing with people face to face. Besides, I really don`t need a lot. Am pretty happy with what I have.
