brake light issue

Ok so last night I was backing up to a parking place and noticed when I use my rear brake brake that the tail light does not come on, I have never noticed this until last night because I was backing up to a huge window. so whats up how can I fix this if in fact it lights off the back brakes? No I'm not boxing up my my bike and shipping it to anyone for "disposal" because it's "defective" sorry. Any Idea's

Change the bulb, it's a standard 1157.

Just when you use the back brake?

Something must be wrong with the rear brake switch or it's components. Check to make sure the spring is still attached. If so then it may need adjusting. See "Brake Light Switches" in your owners manual under the "Maintenance & Adjustment" section.

if its not the bulb...try and check the connection on the rear brake sensor located by right rear set and brake pedal. may just need to be turned or adjusted to make it come back on

But it's broken. +1 for changing the bulb. While your at it buy a bunch of 'em. 1157's are the reason I went with LED's.

No the bulb's not broken, it comes on with the front break. I check the switch on the rear when I get home.

I noticed something like this with my bike and upon further inspection I found that it just took more pressure to have the rear brake light come on when I asked the dealer they said it was because people tend to rest their foot on the rear brake so the switch is not activated until you really have it stepped on. Maybe off base but it is worth checking out.

It's cool. I'm confident there will be some issue with your switch. Check it out when you can. Should just be a small adjustment.

yes it was the switch needed adjusting, I fiddled with it some last night and got it to come on. I'm taking my kids on vacation today so It will have to wait for final adjustment till I return, glad to know it was something simple though.

Reading the manual should be a requirement. You'd know to check the light more often (it suggests every ride) AND how to adjust it. I just put my hand behind it while seated and press the brake. My hand will light brighter and I'll know that it's working.

Funny you say that I did read the manual, I went back after reading your reply and found Page 121-122 (break light switch adjustment), and 161-162(about the labels on the bike) are missing from my Manual, I just never noticed becasue I never looked at the page numbers... Quality control must suck at the printers lol!!! I went to my dealer and they photocopied said pages for me, now I have them (would have given me a new manual but I have written stuff on the cover of mine). Good thing I had an electronic copy of the service manual to use to fix the problem. I kinda figured something came loose just wasn't sure.
