valve adjustment
When you take the valve tappet off, how do you remove the shim? Is there a tool to press down on the spring? Looked at the DYI threads with the pics, but wasn't clear to me how the shims are actually removed once you wiggle the tappets out.
Thanks for any assistance! : |

The shim is usually stuck on the underside of the tappet/bucket and can be removed by hand. A thin film of oil is what is causing it to stick to the bottom. Just when you remove the tappet, go slowly in case it decides to fall out.
You do not need to press down the springs. The pictures that you saw are most likely with the shims already removed. When you replace the shim, you can place it by hand in the depression over the valve stem then place the tappet over it. |
