leaking petcock

2001

around the face plate on my petcock i have 2 screws, one of which is stripped and not holding the faceplate tight so it is leaking even in the odd position.

can i just use a bigger size screw to keep it tight?

sure... why not, you've got nothing to lose. perhaps something like self tapping machine screw might work better than just a larger diameter screw?

Tap it out to the next larger size and use a larger screw, no big deal. Or, use a self-tapping screw, but be warned that self tappers don't make good enough threads to be much reusable. IOW, if you go that route plan on not messing with it later.
