broken Cam Chain tensioner ?

Hello,

my 2011 ninja 250 had a clicky noise in the engine,
comparing with some videos i guessed the problem was a loose cam chain.

So i started taking out the cam chain tensioner to check it, then i took out the middle bolt (with a bit of force) and the thread was broken. (as in the picture)

I don't know if i broke it when i took out the bolt or if it was already damaged.

I wonder if this could be the reason why the cam chain is loose?

Other than that the CCT seems to work properly so i don't think it is le cause of my problem.

What do you think ?

I had a clicky noise that would go away when I reset the tensioner (retract and release the tensioner bolt) but it would come back. I replaced it but damaged the threads for the cap bolt when tightening. I used some high-temp RTV sealant to glue a small coin over it.

Yours is damaged in a different way. The aluminum threads came out cleanly when I tightened mine too much where yours seems to have cracked somehow… perhaps when someone tried to insert a screwdriver to retract the tensioner bolt.

new-gen CCT tends to be more troublefree than pre-gen.
Not sure what happened with yours.
I would replace with new one.

Also measure cam-chain for wear.

I can’t say for sure. It was not new since I salvaged it from a parts engine and I parked the bike ever since. The bike has more serious issues now, like a rusted fuel tank, and fuel that drained into the oil.

I stopped hearing it at idle but resetting the old one would also accomplish this until I went for a ride.
