Ebay lever broke my clutch lever mounting bolt!
So while on my way home from a short ride earlier tonight my clutch lever mounting bolt broke. The lever I have are the ebay levers from China (I think they are "2wheels" or something like that. All I know is that while shifting I started to let the clutch lever out and when I let go I thought it moved forward further than normal. WHen I reached for the lever I realized it was no longer in place. I was able to shift into neutral and pulled to the side of the road. I then searched the road (luckily it wasn't a busy road) and found the bolt. I orginally thought the bolt just came loose or something even though I torqued it down properly. Well the bolt broke completely. Before someone asks yes I did grease the bolt and the levers when I installed them and the bolt still had grease on it when it broke.
The interesting question is that since the mountign bolt is the OEM part did the OEM part fail on its own or did the ebay levers cause the failure?

Could be just over torqued or somehow the bike was dropped? Highly doubt the levers were at fault. Get another. Old at the hardware store and all it a day.

The bike was dropped back when I had the stock levers on. I imagine the bolt could have had hidden damage. Just wanted to see what other peoples' input was and to give everyone a heads up on what COULD happen.

The bolt weakening from a previous drop sounds more likely than an ebay lever damaging the bolt.

i have the ebay levers from "The2wheels" and my bolt is....there, functioning...being bolty?
I wouldn't say this was the levers fault. |

The damage is at the threads. Prior drops or over torque seems like the culprit. In no way would I be blaming the lever for the broken bolt.

Bolt failure. The bolt is soft metal with no torque requirement on the small threaded end. It has happened before with others and stock levers.
