[topix.net] - Biker lawsuit heads to state Supreme Court
On the eve of the spring Harley Rally, the state's highest court may decide whether the city of Myrtle Beach can ticket bikers for not wearing helmets. A local group of bike rally supporters, called BOOST or Business Owners Organized to Save Tourism, filed suit against the city, claiming the helmet law is unconstitutional. BOOST wanted the suit to go directly to the state supreme court. The city agreed to allow that move. State representative Thad Viers, who's representing BOOST in court, says it doesn't mean the supreme court will agree to hear the case, but it makes a lower legal threshold for the plaintiffs to cover. www.1st5ive.com
