New member just bought a 2012 Ninja 250

Hi all,

I just bought a used Black 2012 Ninja 250R yesterday!! I think I got a killer deal @ 2900.00 with 78 miles on it!! He also threw in a Scoripon helment as well. He bought it new in April and as the mileage shows hasnt rode it much. The only drawback is he has a lien on the bike, and I have to wait until the title is sent to me to pick it up. He is worried about his liability if something would happen if I rode it. Way back in the early 90's I rode a Ninja 600R for around a yr before my parents made me sell it. So I am not a total newbie riding street, but have been riding offroad bikes since I was 8yrs old. Just sold my 09 KTM 200 XC-W since I haven't had time to go riding. I have been really wanting to pick up the new 300(green with ABS), but really couldn't pass on the deal I got for the 250R. I might end up trading it in on a 300 if I can get a good deal!! Can't wait to start riding it!!

Matt

Thanks guys!! I had my buddy go pick up the bike tonight, but still have to wait for the lein to be released from GE Captial It will prob be a week or so until the transfer of ownership is complete. If I didn't get such a great deal on this, I would have passed since it wasn't paided off with title in hand!!
A real pain in the ass!!

Can you believe those stickers make the bike cost $400 more ??

(That's why my 2012 is green. Heh. I didn't want to pay extra money just for stickers.)

Oh, and welcome!

I-O LoL! Thanks it's great to be here!! I finally got the title and the keys from the seller this evening!! About freaking time!! urg! Anyway, love the bike! Took it for a quick spin tonight in light rain and 45 degree wx Going to the BMV first thing tomorrow morning to get the title transfered into my name and to get my plates and reg taken care off. Weather here in Ohio is supposed to be in the 70's by the end of the weekend, so I am planning on riding quite a bit with my buddy who bought a 05 Suzuki GS 500 with 900 miles last week

I thought that any motor vehicle with an engine size of 250 ccs or less didn't require a title? I've got a small loan on my motorcycle and the bank told me not to expect any title once it was paid off. Maybe just a Maine thing?

That's pretty unique, if Maine really doesn't give out titles for small displacement bikes. We certainly get them here in California. How do you transfer ownership without a vehicle title?

EDIT: Confirmed on the Maine BMV site. That's weird!

Quote:
A vehicle is required to have a title in the State of Maine if it is a 1995 model year or newer.

Titles are issued for the following types of vehicles:
  • All Motor Vehicles
  • Trailers over 3000 lbs (unladen weight)
  • Motorcycles with engines 300 CC and over
For additional information, please select from the topics below.

Yep! In Ohio pretty much every thing is titled! Motocycles including dirt bikes, boats, etc! Just another way to squeeze more money out of you!! It makes it a real pain in the ass if u try to sell something with a lien on it esp like GE Captial!!

Wow, that is weird. Maryland is the same way - they require my 250 to be titled, tagged, registration, etc...just like any other motor vehicle. And, as of Oct. 1st this month they extended them to the little scooters & mopeds people ride - requiring helmets and eye protection just as they do bikes. They also need to be tagged, too, but I think they don't need to do registration every 2 years like the cars/bikes.

In Maine we still have to register anything under 300 cc, we just don't get a little piece of paper saying it's ours haha And our registration is every year, so I guess that makes up for the lack of fees in titling.
