Global Warming
I'd like to thank President Trump for global warming. Now I can ride all winter. The guy really knows his stuff. If this global warming keeps up I'll be living on the waterfront soon.

My daughter and I had a really nice 100 mile ride around the lake today, on twisty very lightly traveled very back roads, in 75 degree sunny weather. I rode My Guzzi and she rode the 250. I had no idea the Donald helped make this happen, but I do thank him if he did.

Got the bikes out on February 18th. That was a nice stretch of weather in the 60's. 78 yesterday. Totally unheard of.

Sorry for being serious for a moment BUT have a look at all the ice core date over the last 500,000 years.
As long as you can keep politics and religion out of the picture it looks like the earth is just carrying on as per usual. Disclaimer: The dust ppm is at it's highest point though, but it has been for the last 50,000 years, so I doubt that Trump is the reason for that, I'm not saying he isn't, I'm just saying, at this stage of my research, it seems unlikely. Disclaimer on the disclaimer: this has nothing to do with the pollutants and the overpopulation that we are loading up the planet with, it's simple math that states we are heading towards a tipping point, it's basically the same as having to many livestock in a paddock. At least when we do hit that point, the earth, over time will recover, at least until the sun dies in about 5 billion years and engulfs the earth when it goes supernova. Fun times. Anyways, it's time to go down to the garage and swap out my brake pads, hopefully the world doesn't end before I can finish. |

All is well, pads were swapped out without even a minor natural or man-made disaster or event.
As you were. |

@MLR
Biology, chemistry, geology, climatology.... Which one is your field? My chemistry and biology professors would agree with you. Oh, and at any time one of the numerous meteors could hit the earth and end life as we know it.

Im 51 and love to research stuff I dont understand.
I picked up a rock as a kid and it ended up being a bit of fossilized wood, I wanted to know it's story so I had a look into basic geology, that lead to chemistry then biology. Ive been doing it ever since. Spent alot of time on climate, agriculture and sustainable population. My favorite subject is what is a sustainable population, some good theories and data out there, but we are so far past what is sustainable to have a good quality of life and not rape the earth it's not funny, I basically just keep up to date and wonder if the majority of the populace know about what's going on undertheir noses. Im currently looking into the theory of the 6th mass extinction, interesting. I find that we are a fairly stupid animal, most generally look no further back than a few generations and no further forward than their life time. Anyways, as Ive said, we are stupid but at least our beer is cold. |

The real effect of global warming (which, as noted earlier in this thread, is a normal occurrence during an interglacial period) on your lifetime and mine will not be environmental, but instead Societal.
It is a great, overarching truth of human existence that almost no one sees the next big religion coming (as societal size and complexity grew Animism gave way to Ancestor Worship gave way to Pantheons of Gods gave way to Monotheisms...), but I'm here to tell you that the next great religion of this world will be "The Religion of Man-Caused Global Warming.". It's the perfect way for all the power-hungry globalists to rein us all into the same corral and control us. (And, of course, the One-World-Religion nature of this power play won't be made obvious too early in the game. Instead it'll come at you in an Obamacare sort of way, "If you like your current God, you can keep your current God.") Last futzed with by greg737; February 26th, 2017 at 01:06 PM. |

I've always asked, and not received any answer...
are there any beneficial effects of planetary warming? could you imagine if we could grow citrus in northern Illinois? Tangerines the size of grape fruit, and grape fruit the size of watermelons... less fuel burned to keep our near hairless pink hides warm... oh yeah, year round motorcycle use in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon.

heating/venting/air-conditioning.. There is no shortage of people trying to regulate the temperature of their tiny contained climate with complete disregard for the effect it may have on those less fortunate. Living right on the equator -- I can definitely attest to the reality of global warming. I think 'location' is one of the main reasons that people try to deny it's existence. If you aren't near the equator, you won't see the full effect. Tropical storms, extreeeemly high UV index for weeks at a time, flooding, monsoon rains which wash out entire towns.. these things are very real for those close enough to the equator to witness firsthand. I'm no saint. I'm perfectly content to run the A/C in my full size truck with the windows up while going through a drive-through for some terrible mass-production "food." Meanwhile, any other poor soul less fortunate than I has to breathe my diesel exhaust and crankcase vapor to the detriment of their lungs. The "not my problem" philosophy is incredibly easy once you understand how it works in practice. We are cattle. Largely at the mercy of the regulating bodies that have been in place for many years. Those regulating bodies do not have the best interest of the average man at heart. They are 'for-profit' corporations run by the best and brightest sharks in the tank. The only advice I can give is to educate yourself and be smart. A la MLR [and I paraphrase] -- "ALARA, minimize exposure to "As Low As Reasonably Achievable." That's the best advice I have heard in a very long time. I've heard that in many parts of china, children are not permitted to leave home without donning blaze-orange outfits due to the smog levels reaching constant and continual record highs. Air pollution so thick that you physically cannot see your child if it wanders more than 25 feet from you. Improvise, adapt, and overcome. [Dangit I really need to keep my negativity in check. You guys probably didn't want to read all of that mood-souring verbal diarrhea.]

If we just put all the mercury back the planet can get back to regulating its climate control more effectively.

The periodic table of the elements is such a simple diagram. Yet it contains enough information to make perfect sense of every single occurrence one experiences in day to day life. Reminds me of the clinical trials of lithium upon the human brain. Very similar stuff, seeing as the human body AND planet are composed primarily of water. It's all about regulating flow. It is human nature to meddle in affairs that should not be. Humanity will always attempt to mimic their idea of a "god" for the sake of their own selfish desires.

@MLR you are close on the demise of the earth but just to be accurate the sun will not go supernova but will turn into a red giant and expand to about the orbit of the earth in about 5 billion years. However, life on earth will be long gone. In about 1 billion years, with a 10% increase in the sun's brightness there will be no liquid water and with the oceans vaporized the atmosphere will be much like Venus. Mars will be in the Goldilocks zone at that point.
