Best brake pad for 2fiddy

I basically narrowed it down to these two...which one do you think it's the best?

EBC FA197-HH
Vesrah JL **(RJL and SRJL is not available for 250 for now)**

Check out the wiki article here:

http://www.ninjette.org/wiki/Which_brake_pads

It comes to the same conclusion you did, that the EBC FA197HH seem to be the way to go. I've got the EBC197 (non-HH) on the front right now, and that was not an optimal choice, and will be switching them out for the HH's the next time I get a minute while the bike is on stands.

I haven't seen a comparison with the Vesrah JL's yet.

agree with Alex. the sintered metal pads are OEM on the 07-down models.. it only stands to reason that the 08-10s are as well. The EBC HH seems to be the part of choice as well.

I have the FA197HH and the performance is much better than stock. Took me a day or so to get used to them.

The front and rear brakes are identical, so anything that works for the front will work for the rear. That said, for an optimal brake balance, it's not always a good idea to have extra grippy rear pads. Running FA197HH on the front and FA197 (non-HH) on the rear is probably a reasonable idea. I picked up some FA197HH's awhile back on cyclebrakes.com; good pricing and quick shipping.

Thanks for the info Alex. One last n00b question if you don't mind. Do they come in sets of two pads per order?

Good deal..that's where I got mine. Not sure if needed on bike rotors but a carry over from my track cars...I give the rotor a clean with SimpleGreen or the like and a fine weave steel wool or a soap impregnated steel wool pad to clean off the old pad material. It took me a good 200-300 miles of new pad bedding in before I got the stopping performance back...probably longer than some other folk since I was easy on the brake lever for that period. Overall, the stock sintered pads are pretty comparable to the EBC HH's as I think you'll notice.

Why would you need anything more extreme that HH? You will just fry the rotor...

Finally got off my lazy butt and changed out the front pads on the ninjette. The shop put on FA197's during the last service, and I wasn't happy with their performance. When I took them off today, they had plenty of meat left, but they looked completely cooked, entirely black and flaky in fact. Replaced them with FA197HH's, and went for a test ride. At first they didn't feel much different, but after just a few miles, they started to bed in, and by the end of the ride (20ish miles), they felt perfect, just as nice as the original HH's, if not better.

I'd say "I agree, FA197HH pads are excellent" but I haven't gotten around to putting them on yet...

Think I paid 30/pair (covers one wheel) from my local shop, but they can be hard to find at times. Here's a fair price ($34) @ motorcyclesuperstore, which seems to have them in stock atm:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...50R-Parts.aspx

I think I mentioned it in another thread, but I'll put it here too:
Make sure you get the correct FA197HH pads. There was a factory screw-up a while back that put the braking compound on the wrong side of the backing plate a while back, so you wound up with a mirror image of what ya need (unless you wanna start with the backing plates on your rotor). If you get a bad set of pads, just contact EBC directly and they'll replace them.

The set on the right are what you want

Thanks guys, i am no where near needing new pads and i am currently upgrading the nut on top of the bike before i go and do anything performance wise to it. I am looking at trying my first track day since i have a track 5 miles away from me (texas motor speedway) thats why i ask about brakes, i will need them probably after a couple trips there.
