Calling all CT MA RI NY riders - 2015 track days

OK, northeast track monkeys. Time to stand and deliver.

Chime in with which days you want to attend and whether you've committed.

It's WAY WAY more fun to do a track day when you hang out with others. So let's try to line up our schedules so we can do that, and make an effort to arrive at the same time so we can pit together.

Let's use this thread as the 2015 track day central for all of us.

Post up which days and what group you'll be riding in. For now, I'm in red (slow) until I start feeling frustrated or they kick me up.

Right now I'm looking at Palmer opening weekend with Tony's Track Days, which promises to be AWESOME.

May 25 -26 (Memorial day and the day after)

Who else?

Paging @Ducati999, @Bigballsofpaint, @BlackNinja8

On a nother related note. Anyone who stoppes into their local Bike shop in New England and see Alpine Stars Womans small Full leather suits please let me know. My wife is doing her first track day(s) this year and finding an Alpine Star suit to fit a 5' tall Philippino woman has become a challenge!

First track day and either any of the May dates work for me. I'll go where/when the group goes. Consider me 75% in.

Track newb riding a GS500F (for now) traveling from lower Westchester, NY if anyone wants to carpool. Will likely rent a trailer for the bike.

I will be in for a few more double days. just need to get this new/changing job thing to settle down before I start purchasing too many future days (excluding the Memorial day trip). The wife will be along when she gets all her gear--provided we can locate stuff small enough for her. ?do they make kids leathers? may be an option. My friend Mike will be joining us a few times also. Looks like its goning to be a fantastic year

Message from Tony regarding facilities at Palmer. I will be camping, as usual... because I really like the early morning vibe at the track.

This was the info I was waiting for. I'm off to register for both May days, red group.

Quote:
Camping will be allowed for the night before all TTD's.

It will be primitive... bathrooms only.

If you register and the track is not ready, you will receive your choice of refund or credit toward another day. Since Paypal takes a portion of the registration money, I would obviously prefer you choose another day.

Both May dates, or both days at Palmer (25th and 26th)?

My schedule is both packed and ridiculous but I may work something out to head up for a relaxing track weekend (ideally with Team Pro Motion since I'll have their discounts)

What's everyone planning on riding? I'll be on the GS unless I pull the trigger on a CBR F4i in the next month. I bought the GS end of last season as a flip but it turned out to be pretty decent. Wondering if I shouldn't just make it a track bike. It's cheap, bulletproof, and more capable than I am at this point. As it sits today, its a naked with handlebars but that could change...

Beautiful machine! Congratulations. Love the white on that series.

(Blackninja8) I will be riding my 748 Ducati most of the weekend if possible. I have just totally rebuilt the bike and she has not been road tested yet so I may have to ride my SV or 999 if it turns out i made a mistake somewhere. Your GS will be great for your first track day. Just make sure you have newer tires. You dont want warn tires when you are trying to get around the track quickly! My father has the Ninja 500 and I know that would be a fun bike to run around the track on all day. I have found my bigger bike to be a lot more tiring to ride fast at the track at my current level. I have no problem with it on the street but when the pace picks up so does the effort with my skill level. Hope you can make it out in May.

Gonna Ride Palmer

Check the sig... that toy S1000RR is a bit too small, so it looks like the GSX-R750 for me.

What Ant said about your bike. That 500 will be fine and YAY if you have the ability to dedicate a bike to track use. I have enough room in my garage for a track bike, but not enough room in my marriage.

You really don't need a fast bike to learn a ton and have a blast. Your first day will be a lot more like a very spirited ride on a fantastic road with no cops than anything else. You won't really get cranking until later in the day... which is a good thing.

But by the end of the day you might surprise yourself.... I was shocked to discover that by the end of the day the chicken strips on my rear tire were only about 2mm wide.

BTW, Ant... the preseason event at Palmer is only a month away. How much snow is on the ground up where you are? I'm thinking about going (was worth it last year), but the reverse track walk will be pointless if everything's still buried.

Unless there is an incredible amount of warming I would not plan on walking. I have a 24inch deep trench from my back door to the street! The French forces are planning on using it to hold off an attack form the Germans this weekend. Viva La Farance! No really i could crawl from my back door to the street and not be seen. Need some of that global warming to kick in up here. I hope we are past the worst weather and the rest of the month is much warmer. Need to road test the 748 so I can finish her up and get the rest of my bikes done.

snow depth resource:

http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/interactive/html/map.html

Click on "snow depth" from the Physical Element pop-up at left and hit Redraw Map

Shows that right now, Thompson has about 30 inches of snow on the ground.

That's experience for you, granted he wasn't going as hard as possible. This is likely his own 7/10ths pace much like how you or I would ride at our 7/10ths during a track day. The pace where you're comfortable and relaxed can be as fast or slow as the mind that controls it at that moment.

This is the guy, the helmet and the bike.

He was the technique columnist for Motorcycle Consumer News until this year. Now he works for Motorcyclist.

BTW, he'll probably be running the seminar at Thompson in April. Was good last year... I sure hope the snow melts in time.

Paging @Sirref @csmith12 @Ducati999 @Bigballsofpaint @backinthesaddleagain

Just got an email from Penguin saying that they're going to be at NYST May 30 and 31. I'm already taking that week off because I'll be at Palmer the weekend before.

This might be the perfect opportunity to hit up NYST without burning another vacation day. I could even leave my bike in track trim.

Is doing another day so soon after Palmer crazy? I'm no spring chicken.

Still, tempting.

Discusserate.

I dont think you are crazy for doing a third or even a fourth in the same week. You will be able to apply some of the techniques you practiced in Palmer while they are still fresh in your mind. As long as you ride within your limits the day or two between day 2 and three should be enough rest. I really want to hit NYST this year but I dont think I can pull another day off that week. I will be doing a few more track days and I am going to the Philippines later this year so I dont have too many spare days. My employment may be changing soon so I might be able to swing it we shall see. I will post up here if I can work it out.

The one all the way on the right looks like a dude.

Just sayin'

FYI it's a Saturday/Sunday, in conjunction with Team Pro Motion

I'd likely do the Saturday to have a day to recover before heading back to work, but if anyone is seriously considering this and wants to do Sunday I'd gladly switch.

Very observant. Saturday makes it so much more attractive. Keep me posted if you change days. Here are a few more pics of where I went last time.

Get your racing license from Penguin (even if you never race) it will open doors. You have two months to get in shape. Arms, legs, and abs go right after brain failure. A peddle bike will get all parts in better shape.

Not going to pull the trigger until more people have a chance to weigh in. I'm penciling you as a "maybe."
