It's around $3.20 here, I'm guessing it will hit $4 by late april, say april 25th. It jumped from $2.98 - $3.19 here in one night. Just makes me happier that I'm getting a bike.

Like there needs to be a reason to make something faster??? The story is that some poor college kid was selling a full s/c for cheap, so I bought it. It still gets 30+ MPG with a best measured economy of 38MPG (420miles on 11 gallons). It was actually the first thing I did to the car.

I can't wait to start commuting on my ninja. I calculated that at $4 per gallon it'll only cost about $1 for a round trip commute to work.

On the rise everywhere... Baltimore Sun article. "The price of heavily traded Brent crude oil rose more than $5 to top $111 a barrel. A month ago, the crude cost about $97."

I love my Ninja 250 and at 60-65mpg average I ride it a lot more during the warmer months than driving my Jeep that gets 20mpg average.

$3.25 here. At that rate the bike will save me 72 bucks a month. At 4 dollars it would be $88 a month. And my car gets 35-38 MPG.

People in the rest of the world have discovered long ago that motorcycles are a good and economical means of transportation. Here in the US we ride for sport and enjoyment. It is a big difference. I have used my motorcycles over the years as transportation at a considerable savings. I am currently exploring the possibility of fitting my bike with a sidecar.

My buddy purchased his 2010 Ninja 250 SE last year finally after he got a new job that is 80-some miles round trip. After the bike payment, insurance and gas he saves like $100-something a month rather than driving his SUV. Plus the enjoyment of having it as a recreation vehicle as well. Win-win.

Forced Induction FTW! Other than the fact that you need to fill up with Premium.

Premium is $3.33 in my area, but I have a feeling that it will be up to $4.00/gal here soon.

AFAIK, US population had great public transportation prior to the auto industry boom. Electric trolleys were quite popular. Auto industry promote consumer behavior to depend on cars, buying a new car every few years and designed cars that have limited service cycles. In addition the roads & highway systems in the US are auto oriented.
Personaly, growing up in Asia, my whole family of five traveled on the ever reliable Honda C90 to go just about everywhere on our native island. Pavement, wherever they existed, was often narrow and very busy with other traffic. Sidecar may seem like a good idea, but make sure you have strong upper body to steer the rig, fuel econ are likely poor on them, too. But they are fun to ride for short amount of time.

Tell me about it. That's more than the (stock) EPA rating by a fair margin, if I didn't see it for myself I wouldn't believe it.

I got about the same fuel economy as you do in my last car which was turbocharged although I was running it at 9psi lo and 18 psi hi (Profec B Spec2). I kept it 18psi most of the time though because it was just too much fun.

Who thinks we'd have rioting if gas ever hit $5 per gallon in the US? I think we'd have the petrolium execs lined up in congress again so our elected officials can pretend like they're doing something about it...

Who controls the price of oil?

Anyone else read the book, The oil card by James R Norman? I know it is popular to blame the oil execs but this book will give you a different take on who controls the price of oil.
