License plate registration fee?
I'm curious about the fee variations around the continent.. Here in Quebec the fees are layed out like so:
125 cc or less = $242 (eg. CBR 125R) 126 cc to 400 cc = $373 (eg. Ninja 250R) 401 cc and over (regular) = $627 (eg. Ninja 650R, FZ-6R) 401 cc and over (high-risk) = $1,410 (eg. Ninja ZX-6R, CBR 600RR, YZF-R6) Oh and by the way, all this is payable PER year. (April - December). No driving within those months without winter tires. What does your state/province charge you? Registered as a single-seater my bike is AUD $230. As a two-seater AUD $430 or so. This is payable yearly. My personalised plates cost me over $400. Stamp-duty (a state name for tax, as the states are not allowed to "tax", that's federal only) is 3 dollars in every 100 payable each time the bike is sold.

Registration here is based on Age of vehicle. My Ducati ran $27 for reg plus $18 for Smog Check. (Yes we do have emissions for Motorcycles here)
Registration for the '09 Ninjette is $94.26 which includes the $25 surcharge for the custom plate per year. Since I don't need to Smog the Ninjette for another 3 years, I can renew for 2 years at a total of $169.40. |

Here in Maine it is based on the value of the vehicle (08 Ninja bought new $3499.00) Registration $61.23 a year for 10 years plus $10.00 a year for inspection. The same applies to cars and boats. It is really not a registration--it is an excise tax. Mandatory insurance is another trip altogether. A 250 Ninja pays more insurance than a Harley Electra-Glide because the Ninja is a Sportbike regardless of the operator`s driving record.

Don't you just love maine? I have State Farm though and they go by the displacement regardless of sportbike/cruiser. I'm not sure what my registration will be this year since I had to pay sales tax last year.

just got mine in the mail as well. its only 39.00 here in illinois for the annual fee to renew (those dumb stickers) but Jesse white (secretary of state) went up on the cars 20 bucks making it 100 per sticker.
title and regestration (getting my new 636 titled came to a grand total of 25.00 for taxes plus 125.00 for registration and title transfer. (im waiting to see if the bike comes back with a clean title as it was a rebuilt one before) I think it may come back clean as I didnt see the lady check were it says "title type" idk

All I can say to everyone. Beware of the Excise Tax states. They will get you by the short hairs.

Here in Alberta my car is about $75 a year and my motorcycle plate is about $45 a year.
What kind of car or bike it is doesn't change the fee, it always remains the same as far as I know. My motorcycle plate fees have changed the same with each of my 3 bikes that I have used this plate on at least. Those are the only fees we pay per year for vehicles here aside from insurance. |

I brought up this topic before. It's the way you look at it.
Think about it, we're paying more money but what do we get in return. A form a basic life insurance. When most people pay their plate, that's all they're paying. So as soon as you look at it that way it's not that bad. With that said I hate the conditions. Basically if a drunk guy steals a car, crashes and kills himself the Government still has to pay out money to his family. If it's something stupid like that they really shouldn't have to pay squat. I HATE that some of my money is going toward that crap.

Im gonna have to pay a $15 late fee cause my tag expires tomorrow. I hate being a procrastinator. Now I probably wont renew my tag till like March or something.

Just got mine for my 2009 yesterday and it will be $80 for 2010 here in NE. We've got so manny taxes and fees I'm beginning to think our state legislatures motto is: If it moves tax it - if it's not moving subsidize it.

The Canadian government is not an insurance company. What business do they have setting registration fees by the vehicle's "risk?" If anything, higher-risk vehicles have higher turnover and could generate more profit (if you want to call it that) without higher fines!

New York State is now $17.50 per year, except in the NYC Metro area which is now like $40.
