06 250r stalls and wont accelerate

I have been redoing the paint and i had the tank off painting it and the rims. I put together the rims and tires (i work at a tire shop) and put the bike together again, making sure to torque everything to the proper torque . I installed my tank which is not completely done but i wanted to make sure that it was riding good since i tightened the chain some in the reassemble. Since tho it has been stalling and idling low and then stalling and it started when i was riding it down the block a few minuets after it was warmed up some. It stalled i had to set the idle to the max and it still barely was running and when pulling back the throttle it starts yo shake a bit and slowly move but is very hesitant. I opened the gas cap after and seen gunk around the ring and earlier today took off the tank and petcok and seen gunk in the tubes so im planning on cleaning out my carbs and putting fresh gas and seafoam in and also changing out my oil (which is due).im hoping doing this will resolve my issues.. Any suggestions to things i should do .

you're on the right track. Maybe think about the airbox mod while you're at it.

Could be water in the gas, just bad gas, the tank vent, petcock?

You need you to disassemble the gas cap and remove the two small red diaphragms, assuming this is your only problem.

The diaphragm gets hard and losses it's flexibility and gets stuck, and doesn't allow proper venting.

IMHO this modification should be done regardless to prevent future problems whatsoever.

They are ment to vent the tank, but in the case of an accident not allow gas to leak out, but more often cause problems then they fix.

Here are some pictures to help you.

The plastic piece houses the two small red diaphragm pieces, this one being mine, they are already gone, and you can leave the plastic piece out all together, as I'm going to do now.

Some things to watch out for are, there are 5 small springs under the round collar, and a small round collar as well on the locking mechanism, don't lose any of them.

Good luck.

Hey, @Ghostt. Why don't you put all your writeups in the ninjette wiki and link to them instead of quoting all the time? Should be easier on you :P

Yup - there's your problem.

A complete disassembly and cleaning of the entire system is in order. Remove the tank and slosh some gas around vigorously before dumping into a pan. Repeat until it comes out clean. At that point if you can see heavily rusted areas you may need to do more work before putting it back on. Carbs will need to be cleaned as well.

I'd add an in-line fuel filter when you put things back together. Buy clear ones and keep and eye on it. Swap the first one out when you notice it getting dirty. After the first time you should be good for a while.

gas cap

My gas cap had been replaced previous to my owning the bike it has a screw off cap that reveals a large hole to fill the gas in it has no seals and what not i will take it off and make sure its well cleaned i have the petcock off an sprayed some carb cleaner in it lastnight i am gunna spray out the tank with an air hose at work today. I believe there water in my tank tho so i drained the gas. I have the carb off and cleaned it it wasnt dirty tho and i am replacing some stripped out screws with news ones so when i do my float seals in a few weeks its easier to disassemble. Besides spraying out my gas lines tank and all that is there anything else in specific i should make sure is cleaned out ?

It should have a large O-ring around the cap to seal it. If that's not there you will get water in the tank any time the cycle gets wet.

Go through the carb and clean the jets carefully while you have them off. Remove the idle mixture caps and clean the passages. Set the screws to 2 1/2 turns out for starters.

Read through this section before calling it good - http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_...n_the_carbs%3F - especially How do I clean the carbs?

Did you find sediment in the floatbowls? Check the small filter in the fuel line where it attaches to the carb . If it's there it's probably blocked.

clogged gas line

So after going through everything i found a clog in the main gas line obstructing the passage i removed it and the in line filter was a bit bent and i believe slowing the flow of gas. I am gonna buy a clear filter that attaches to my gas line and since its not an inside filter i can watch it as said. I had to get new screws for the top and bottom of my carb so i can take them out to clean inside and then i replaced the screws and washers. I will out some gas in my tank and whirl around a few times and drain it out. I'm fairly certain tho that the whole problem started with the clogged line and now i just need to put the bike together and check it all out again. Ill post when and if hopefully all the problems are resolved . And i appreciate all the insight. .

Might I suggest when you change out the screws, to upgrade to stainless steel button heads, contact @ducatiman as he has kits, and reasonable prices.
