Racer X turbo build

With Ecotron Fuel injection and the new turbo system coming out for the 250 and 300. I want to showcase it all in one place. and set some records along the way. I am starting a new project. '

I need a name for it. I will take suggestions then have a pole.
.
This bike should be ready for 2014 season.

specs..
2001 frame. front section. Custom fabricated rear half.
2008 swing arm
2001 fork
17 inch wheels
aerodynamic 1.5 gallon tank
265cc turbocharged engine making 60 hp
Wizards of nitrous system adding 40 hp

The build will go in short bursts. I have to finish out this season before I can spend a dime.

Looks good already. So you said 265cc engine, does this mean you will no be competing for the fastest 250?

Name suggestion

Sleipnir, the Name of Odin's horse. I just seems fitting. Sorry can't help with pronunciation

From wikipedia - (In Norse mythology, Sleipnir (Old Norse "slippy"[1] or "the slipper"[2]) is an eight-legged horse. Sleipnir is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson. In both sources, Sleipnir is Odin's steed, is the child of Loki and Svašilfari, is described as the best of all horses, and is sometimes ridden to the location of Hel. The Prose Edda contains extended information regarding the circumstances of Sleipnir's birth, and details that he is grey in color.)

HOLY BIG PICTURE BATMAN!! lol sorry i just linked it

Subscribed!! Finally someone who knows what they're doing is going to get into the fuel injection retrofit and attempt the turbo.

Be warned: the efi conversion parts are not the highest quality. They're meant to fit a price point. They work just fine for an average joe like myself, but they might be below your standards.

Look into importing the EU-spec EFI parts if you can. Shadowwolf1117 did that with his race bike and got some great numbers out of it because he could use a Power Commander and adjust the timing for high octane race fuel and get a good fuel curve from dyno time. You might want to contact him and see if he can help you out. I'm not sure if all the EU-spec parts will work on an 88-07 engine (looks like that's what you're going to use?), but you should at least pick his brain since he successfully imported all the parts to do his OEM retrofit.

No paint . This is a Bonniville Bike. Raw aluminum and black spray paint.

I will be replacing some of the hardware to meet m needs and race spec . I need the software. Same with the turbo. It's the oil feed and pipe fab that cost time and money to get right. I just want to assemble the pieces and make it all work.

Okay good. Just making sure.

You should talk to Matt (ecotrons guy) and see what he can do to get you the parts/files/stuff you need. The software is the best part of the kit really. You can adjust everything.

I agree the easy tuning is the best part of the kit.
The runner up is the quick starts.

Far from it. I blew up both my motors in 2010. I repaired them with the 4mm over bore. This put me in the 350 class. I have set more 350 records than 250 records.
For the last four years I have been working on a 250 engine. When it is finished I will convert my current bike( The Dark Horse Special) back to a 250 and compete with it.
This new bike will not have a fairing. And being 265cc and turbo with nitrous and E85. It will be classed as modified blown fuel 350-4.

I installed a 2009 swing arm on the bike. The frame is 2001. It all bolted in no problem. Except I don't have any hardware to mount the wheel. That's OK because I want to extend the rear wheel three inches. I plan to do this with Aluminum plug in pieces and the rear wheel and brake assembly from a zx6r.

No I think it will hold. At Bonneville I have to go full throttle 60 hp and 115-125 mph for two miles . Then hold the nitrous full power full speed through a measured mile. Then turn around and do it again. I cant use just nitrous for the full run. Because of bottle size. So I need a turbo to get up to speed.

I will spend this year testing and pushing this two motors I have. I got a good strong 50 hp system now. I just need to take it to the next level.

This is the 09 swing arm in the 01 frame. With the 16 inch wheel and brake I will be replacing with a 17. I need to move the foot pegs back to the area of the jack stand. 11 inches back!

It will go fine agenced another 250. Otherwise it is about able to hang with a 500. But a 600 will kill it.

Sorry, I should have worded my question more accurately. I wanted to know how the turbo would make a difference as far as the turbo lag, engine responsiveness etc... is concerned. Would it make a big difference in the way you choose your lines, gears, etc... What happens if he turbo kicks-in mid corner? Would that make a massive difference? Stuff like that...

I'd like to know how well this turboing would work in a street bike. Sounds like it could be fun and/or expensive, probably a little of both...

No street, No corners. Just five miles of open salt.Or one mile concrete or 1/4 mile asphalt.
A little photo shop of the rear wheel position and rear fairing shape.

For sure not as easy to ride as w/o turbo, before boost there's less power and with boost u have all the power within a second (maybe just in the wrong moment) and don't forget that turbo needs fuel as they are thirsty.
For what Eric is doing the idea to go with turbo in my opinion is the best way, but for normal or to say street use, I think turbo is not easy and look for the history when the Japanese companies went with turbo engines (1982) after five years they'd stop them again for the known reasons.

The first thing I need to do is get the bike rolling. I need to move the rear wheel back. That involves extending the 2009 swingarm. Or having a custom made swingarm. I need a large rear tire. 17inch rim and a 180 or 190 tire. Because of the gearing inside the engine. I need a very tall rear wheel. Going 150 mph and turning 12000 rpm is going to be trickey to gear.

In 1982 the fuel injection was not able to make a turbo work. With modern fuel injection the turbo 300 with 40 hp turbo will ride great on the street or on the track

I was looking around and found this.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...light=Swingarm.
It has a swingarm from an 08 gaxr. I can get one of those for 70 bucks with shock. Anyone know if the swingarm will fit?

You would think. But I have managed to hold them off.
The only 350 compitition I have is 350 Hondas and they are air cooled and go a little over 100 mph. Racing at Bonneville I have to compete agenced to stroke motorcycles. The 250 two strokes came from moto GP. They have about 90 hp. The two stroke 350 s are street bikes and have about 70 hp. The record I want is 138 mph and was set in 1979

Why do you say the 1982 fuel injection was not able to work with a turbo?
It came build from factory for just that purpose and I would say that the ecu from today is not made for the use with a turbo although it should work with it. The whole system was complete unit, with also the cr for the use with a turbo.
What dynamic cr will you get when you use a cr 12.5 to 1 with 0.6 bar boost? Good luck and protect your knees.

As I recall factory turbo bikes had bad lag problems and ran poorly. So they did not sell. But they might have been carb turbo.

The dynamic ratio of 12.5 with .5 bar is very high. To much for the fuel. Adding nitrous would be to much. I would not run 12.5 to 1 with .5 bar. I would run 10.5 to 1 with 1 bar and pull timing as the boost increased and adding nitrous from the mid range.

The nitrous should act as an intercooler. And the turbo should keep things going in one direction. And yes watch my knees.

Not this year. Maybe as crew. But I will spend this year working out the engine using my current bike. And build this bike a little at a time. I need to make it a rolling chassis first, then I will put my motor in it and spend money.
The plan is BUB 2014. But that depends on a lot of stuff. I will at least test run it in Ohio by then.
Can you came to Ohio in April. First real nitrous run.

Sorry but I would not be able to make it to Ohio. I think I'll be at BUB this year just to check it out (maybe take a run too!). If you go I'll have to make meet up and introduce myself.

It's still early in the year. I hope I can go to BUB again this year. The people are awesome.

This is a better seating position. Hiding from the wind more, The clip on bars are under the lower clamp. And I made a set of adapters that move my rear sets back and down.

I am going to try to go to the motorcycle salvage yard this week. I hope I can find an aluminum swing arm. One that will fit without much work. I will get it and then buy swing arm extensions. But I need the swing arm, wheel and break caliper . Plus bolts and stuff. I am sure there are plenty of rear ends from sport bikes in the junk yard.

I have a 2009 frame that took a really good hit in the front. I cut it up to use some of the parts. I mounted the tank and have the rear section to help center the frame.
The seating position is coming together.

I am still trying to come up with a name,

I like the four legged horse. But I cant pronounce it. Plus I am a city boy. I am afraid of horses. They are shaped like a dog and weigh a ton. And I am no Oden.

At this stage it is just a parts pile. Just starting to mock up. I have some 1/2 inch steel tubing. I held it together with tape just so I can start locating components.

To ride a bike with four times its normal engine output for three miles wide open. I need a cooling system able to handle the heat. I plan to use the nitrous as an inter cooler. And the Fuel system will keep the whole thing from going lean. BUT there is still a huge blow torch going around the exhaust valves and through the exhaust ports. Dissipating the engine hear is critical to running safely.

I am using a larger radiator and mounting it behind the rear seat. I will replace it eventually with a thicker aluminum one as needed. And I am going to use an electric water pump to flow a LOT more than the stock one.

Hey for the name, how about "Machine X or X Machine" just like your name?.. unless you want something really intimidating like, "Wilson" or ...."Tim"
