The "diode method" looks like it's a good bet. Not difficult to do. It's very similar to what I did on my VFR to add hazard lights to it. Two diodes joined together to let voltage go through both in one direction, but stop at one diode only with voltage going the opposite direction. Just like the pic in that post, you have to create a new ground to one side of the turn signal indicator, and the other goes to the 2 diodes. That will eliminate the "all 4 lights" going on at once and just isolate the requested circuit that you are calling for. (left or right) You could use 1N4004 diodes as an alternative, they just have a higher voltage limit than the 1N4001 diodes.

Josh, I did mine following the article you linked. Only took 1/2 hour. If you don't have any heat shrink tubing. You can get a box of it at Harbor Freight for just a few bucks. Get the "marine' type, it has sealant inside to keep moisture out.
That will fix the "all four lights at once problem" Then you have to deal with the flash cycle rate problem. When I did mine, I added sockets to my tail light and used standard bulbs in the rear. Resistors work, but if you forget to turn the signals off, they get very hot quickly. You can get a useable flasher at Cycle Gear if you have one nearby.

hey guys. yea I actually did what was in the article. I figured to do it the right way then to be lazy. I didn't/don't have any heat shrink so for now I just used electrical tape. been on for about 2 weeks now or so and has failed yet. I have all four turn signals LED lights so I used an electronic relay to fix the rapid flash. the only draw back from that is that it makes a loud BEEP noise. sounds like a truck backing up lol
but all in all it was easier then I thought it was. =] |
