Once again a Vinales set the fastest time in the Le Mans first free practice. But this year it was Isaac, cousin to last year's Moto3 champion and current Moto2 rider Maverick Vinales. However, Isaac Vinales' time of 1'43.998 Friday morning was nearly two seconds faster than the prior year's fast time in FP1.

Efren Vazquez placed second, a tenth of a second back. And Alex Marquez came in third-fastest, a three-tenths behind the leaders. Alex Rins (4th) and last week's winner Romano Fenati (5th) rounded out the top five. Championship leader Jack Miller, fourth with eight minutes to go, dropped a two additional places at the session's end.
