[motorcycle.com] - 2019 BMW F850GS Adventure Spy Photos

A new off-road-capable version of the BMW F850GS has been spotted undergoing testing in Greece. As a replacement for the F800GS Adventure, the new model will likely debut this fall at Intermot or EICMA as the 2019 BMW F850GS Adventure.

Even without its final paint, the BMW roundel and GS logos are clearly visible. Note the substantial venting in the fairing including a series of holes cut out above the protective bar.

If the F800GS Adventure is any indicator, this new model will have a larger fuel tank than the F850GS’ 4.0-gallon capacity. The F800GSA was wider than the regular F800GS, but because they both had their fuel tanks located under the seat, this was a result of larger bodywork to provide better wind protection. For the F850GS, BMW relocated the fuel tank to a more conventional location in front of the rider, so the Adventure version will be much wider, perhaps even compared to the F800GSA.

The Adventure version will have a taller, wider windscreen than the regular F850GS. Unlike the F800GS Adventure’s one-piece windscreen, the new bike has a three-part screen, with two wider screens set to either side and a bit further back from the tall central screen.

The test bike was mounted with a pair of metal cases, so we expect a stronger subframe to support the heavier panniers as well as the weight of a top box and passenger.

Other differences we can see from the F850GS include fog lights, engine crash bars, a larger bash plate and a center stand, though it’s too early to know which of these items will be offered as standard equipment and which will be in one of BMW’s package options.

The crash bars have a new shape compared to the ones on the F800GSA. The bash plate also looks larger than the one employed on the outgoing model.

Expect to see the new BMW F850GS Adventure appear at one of this fall’s two big shows. We’ll have more information right here on Motorcycle.com as it becomes available.
