2007 tank fit

Made the mistake of purchasing a 2007 fuel tank for my '86 EX250.

Of course, when I hauled it over to the bike's location the bolts/frame mounts do not line up. Is there a way around this?

The tank is in doable condition with no leaks or rust and I would hate to trash or sell it unless it is impossible to make do.

86 and 07 should be compatible right? You sure you didn't buy an 08 tank?

That is the impression I was under. Adding the link to the tank's original product page- maybe someone can shed some light on what I am missing.

Biggest problem I am running into is the rear bolt holes on the tank sit at a 45 degree angle (approx) and the frame mounts at flat, as are the original tank bolt holes.

That's a pregen tank, pics of your mount holes? Does it fit in the front?

Will get some photos comparing the two tomorrow morning. It sits nicely on the frame in the front.

'86/'87 are EX250E while '88-'07 are EX250F and '08-'12 are EX250J. There are a lot of differences. The J-bike's tank petcock interferes with the F-bike's frame so I hope there's no similar issue here between the F-tank and the E-frame.

I'm wondering if someone swapped your rear mount, where the seat fits in. The seat is stock correct?
