Removing the vacuum spring from the petcock.

Do you have to twist the gasket piece off or do you just pull it of?

Twist not needed.
Be gentle, the diaphragm is delicate.

It may stick to the body, but inserting some thin blade in between should liberate it.

It is made of two layers, if I remember correctly.

Yup came apart a lot simpler than I thought it would. I stretched the spring and put a thin coat of petroleum jelly on all the gaskets now my petcock does not leak. Thanks for the help.
