cylinder head cover - gasket
As I study the SM, preparing for my valve adjustment, I noticed the instruction to replace the cover gasket.... I haven't seen that mentioned in any DIY (although I would expect it). I also went over my paperwork from when I had the dealer check the valves at 7.5K miles. Of course they charge for every little part, claimed the valves were in spec..... but no charge for a new gasket. Does that mean it doesn't need replacement, or they charged me for work they never did?

The valve cover gasket is made of rubber and reusable. Just be careful not to damage it because they are expensive. With care the gaskets can easily last over 20 years.

What type of sealant do I need to buy?
Edit: and can I get it at the auto part or hardware store? Last futzed with by headshrink; March 7th, 2010 at 12:55 PM. |
